2020 Masters odds: PGA picks, Tiger Woods predictions from dial-in model who swept six majors
A win at the 2020 Masters can define a golfer’s career, but for those who have failed multiple times, it could leave a big hole in their resume. Many of the top contenders for the 2020 Masters will be searching for that elusive victory when the tournament begins at Augusta National Golf Club on Thursday, April 9. The field also includes current 2020 Masters odds favorite Rory McIlroy, who has won the other three major titles. , but never made the top three at Augusta.
Jon Rahm (11-1), whose best finish was fourth in 2018, as well as Brooks Koepka (12-1) and Dustin Johnson (14-1), who finished second last year, are among others looking to advance. Want to grow. SportsLine’s prediction model, built by DFS pro Mike McClure, has swept two of the last three majors entering the weekend. This predicted Gary Woodland’s first career major championship at the US Open, even though he was not the favorite entering the weekend. Result: Woodland held off a late charge from Brooks Koepka and won by three strokes. The model also noted Koepka’s historic win at the 2019 PGA Championship, and predicted he would maintain his lead at the domestic level.
Overall, their advanced computer models have taken over six majors entering the weekend. And already this season, the model tipped Justin Thomas to win the CJ Cup and Rory McIlroy to beat the WGC-HSBC Champions. Whoever has followed it has come a long way.
Model’s Top 2020 Masters Predictions
With the field now taking shape for the 2020 Masters, SportsLine simulated the event 10,000 times, and the results were astonishing. The one big shock the models are calling for: Woods, a five-time champion and one of the top favorites in Vegas, didn’t even crack the top 10.
Woods caused a stir in the golf world last year when he completed a historic comeback to win his 83rd Masters by one shot. He led the field in greens with 58 out of 72. He also had 22 birdies last year, the second-most in the field, on his way to his 15th career major championship. Woods has enjoyed considerable success at Augusta, earning his first career major win at the historic course in 1997, and he has earned 14 top-10 finishes at the Masters in 20 appearances as a professional.
However, Woods has not won multiple tournaments in a season since 2013. The 44-year-old Woods equaled Sam Snead’s PGA Tour record of 82 wins at the Zozo Championship earlier this season. Additionally, Woods entered the Genesis Invitational hitting only 62.04 percent of his fairways off the tee, which could cause major trouble at Augusta National, where the fairways are extremely tight and surrounded by tall trees. He is not a strong choice to repeat as champion and he has far better values in the 2020 Masters field than the 10-1 premium.
Another surprise: Hideki Matsuyama, a long shot at 41-1, is in a strong position toward the title. He has a much better chance of winning it all than his odds suggest, so he’s a target for anyone looking for a big payday.
The 28-year-old Japanese golfer, who has a scoring average of 69.1 this season, is ranked 20th in the world and 9th in the FedEx Cup rankings. And although he has never won a major, he has been consistently in the mix and has finished sixth or better at all four majors, including a fifth-place performance at the Masters in 2015. With 16 career wins on the PGA, European and Japan golf tours, Matsuyama knows what it takes to put together four rounds. And with three top-five performances already on the 2019-20 PGA Tour, he should have plenty of confidence heading into Augusta.
How to Make 2020 Masters Picks
Additionally, the model says four other golfers with odds of 22-1 or more will make strong appearances at the title. Whoever supports these Dalit people may face a big shock.
