In his first season with LIV Golf, Jon Rahm proved he is the best player. Winning the individual season-long race with his victory at LIV Golf Chicago, the Spaniard picked up his second trophy on the circuit and overtook Joaquin Niemann for the top spot. That was last week, however. This week, the focus is on his teams as the LIV Golf Dallas Team Championship is the 14th and final event of the league’s third campaign.

Despite their stellar play all year, Rahm and his Legion XIII teammates are pinning their hopes on Bryson DeChambeau and his Crushers, the defending champions of LIV Golf. Both the Crushers and Legion XIII have earned byes into the quarterfinals – as has all-Australian squad Ripper GC – ahead of a three-day contest that includes singles matches, foursomes, stroke play and a lot of money up for grabs.

Brooks Koepka’s Smash would have had a bye in any other year, but with a new team (Legion XIII) coming in, Smash will be the top seed playing in the quarterfinals. Smash, along with teams seeded 5-13, will compete for a spot in Saturday’s semifinals.

Koepka will have his pick of the players as he first has to choose which team he wants to play in the quarterfinals. After that, Niemann, Sergio Garcia, Louis Oosthuizen and Martin Kaymer will choose the matchups for their respective teams as the higher seeded players.

In the previous two seasons the captains of each team played against each other in a singles match, but this year that has changed as teams are free to choose where they want to place their players. The remaining three members of each team will be split between another singles match and a foursomes match. Whichever team earns two points will advance to the next day.

The final day of competition will see a return to standard stroke play, with all 13 teams competing in a three-tier system. Each player’s score will count towards their team, with the lowest cumulative total of the top four teams being crowned the LIV Golf Team Champion for the third time.
