2024 Stanley Cup: Know how the Panthers celebrated their win, from beer baths to diving into the sea
The Florida Panthers won their first Stanley Cup in franchise history by defeating the Edmonton Oilers in Game 7 on Monday evening.
The Oilers returned to the Stanley Cup Finals by winning three consecutive games. However, the Panthers won the Stanley Cup thanks to a stellar performance by their defense and goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky.
As is usually the case when a professional sports team wins a championship, it takes many hours and days to celebrate that victory. The Panthers were certainly no different as they paraded the Stanley Cup throughout South Florida this week.
On Tuesday, several Panthers players took the Stanley Cup to the Elbow Room beach bar in Fort Lauderdale. After arriving at the spot, the players carried the Stanley Cup around the bar.
“I come here pretty often,” Matthew Tkachuk told the Sun-Sentinel. “I haven’t gone to bed yet, but everything is OK. I’m a little tired, but I got my second wind, so I’m ready to go.”
Tkachuk plans to celebrate the Panthers’ championship throughout the summer.
The Panthers certainly had a lot of fun celebrating with fans, as the trio of Tkachuk, Sam Bennett and Anthony Stolarz sang “We Are the Champions.” The players even shared some beer from the Stanley Cup with a patron and threw it at a fan.
Eventually, the Panthers took Lord Stanley’s Cup to a nearby beach. Upon arriving on the sand, Panthers star Matthew Tkachuk decided the Stanley Cup should get wet. Tkachuk jumped into the Atlantic Ocean with the Stanley Cup in his hand.
Finally, former Panthers goaltender Roberto Luongo, who now serves as a special advisor to general manager Bill Zito, got a chance to celebrate with the Stanley Cup since he never had such an opportunity as a player. Luongo went to a local Italian restaurant with his family and ate a bowl of pasta with the Stanley Cup in it.
The Panthers will surely have a great summer to celebrate their remarkable achievement. Although it’s only been a few days, they’ve set a pretty high bar.
