2024 Tour Championship odds, predictions, field: Xander Schauffele, Rory McIlroy picks from proven golf model
Only 30 golfers remain in the race for the 2024 Tour Championship, with several joining the field last week and others dropping out. Keegan Bradley took the biggest step with his win at the BMW Championship, moving from 50th to fourth in the FedEx Cup standings. Justin Thomas barely made it to 30th in the 2024 Tour Championship field, meaning he will be 10 strokes behind No. 1 Scottie Scheffler to begin the tournament when play begins Thursday at 11:16 a.m. ET. Every golfer in the field is assigned starting strokes based on their position in the standings, but Scheffler has been unable to maintain his starting stroke lead in each of the past two years.
Scheffler is the +100 favorite in the 2024 Tour Championship odds (risk $100 to win $100), while Xander Schauffele is +220. Schauffele is two strokes behind Schauffele, so does he hold any value in terms of 2024 Tour Championship bets? Before you lock in your 2024 Tour Championship picks or PGA props, be sure to check out the golf predictions and projected leaderboard from the proven computer model at SportsLine.
Our proprietary model, created by DFS Pro Mike McClure, has become very popular since the PGA Tour resumed in June 2020. In fact, this model is up over $9,500 on its best bets since the restart, leading tournament after tournament.
The same model has also driven the 13 major tournaments entering the weekend, including the 2024 Masters – the third Masters in a row – and this year’s PGA Championship and US Open. Anyone who has followed it has reaped huge benefits.

2024 Tour Championship Golf Top Predictions
One surprise: McIlroy, a four-time major champion and one of the top favorites, is not in the top five this week. McIlroy is six strokes behind Scheffler this week, the same position he was when the Northern Irishman won the 2022 Tour Championship. However, he was in better form overall that season, recording 10 top-10 finishes and three wins in 16 events.
McIlroy has finished in the top-10 only six times in 18 tournaments this season, and he has won only one individual event. He has failed to finish in the top 10 in three of his last four tournaments, missing the cut at the Open Championship while finishing T68 in the first stage of the playoffs. SportsLine’s model doesn’t believe McIlroy’s current form, suggesting bettors are undervaluing the three-time Tour Championship winner.
The model also examines where Schauffele ends up. Prior to this season, Schauffele’s best career results came when he won gold at the 2017 Tour Championship and the 2020 Summer Olympics. Schauffele, 30, finally made it to the major championships this season, winning the PGA Championship and the Open Championship this summer.
He became the first golfer since Brooks Koepka in 2018 to win multiple majors in the same year, and will now aim for his second career Tour Championship win. Schauffele is second in the FedEx Cup standings, so he will start the tournament two strokes behind Scheffler. With five top-five finishes at the Tour Championship in the past six years, Schauffele should be considered for Tour Championship bets.
