2024 WWE Clash at the Castle predictions, card, matches, PPV preview, start time, location, date
WWE is holding a pay-per-view event in Scotland for the first time this Saturday when Clash at the Castle takes place at the OVO Hydro in Glasgow. In the main event, Drew McIntyre is hoping to get the best moment of his career in his home country.
McIntyre will challenge Damian Priest for the World Heavyweight Championship in what is sure to be a wild atmosphere as his countrymen cheer him on. McIntyre has been moving on lately, considering himself a victim of several different circumstances that have not been able to give him the success he deserves. One of the main adversaries in McIntyre’s storyline is CM Punk, who should return from injury soon, but McIntyre loses the title to him, creating an easy spot for Priest to cash in his Money in the Bank contract at WrestleMania.
There are a total of five title matches on the card on Saturday night. Cody Rhodes will once again defend his Undisputed WWE Championship against AJ Styles. Their first match took place at Backlash in May and is one of the best wrestling matches of the year. This time, the pair will face off under “I Quit” stipulations, where the first person to say those words loses.
Let’s see who the experts at CBS Sports are picking to win each match on Saturday’s card.
WWE Clash at the Castle 2024 Predictions
World Heavyweight Championship – Damian Priest (c) vs. Drew McIntyre
McIntyre getting a win in front of his home crowd would be a great moment, and he deserves it for the work he’s done for WWE, especially during the height of the pandemic. After McIntyre’s title reign ended minutes after Priest cashed in at WrestleMania, someone on X pointed out that no one has ever paid for a ticket to see McIntyre defend the world title. This is not a dig at McIntyre, but rather a result of the pandemic and the cash-in. The point is that the story of McIntyre being stripped of the title at this event – preferably by CM Punk – is too good to ignore. The best villain thing McIntyre has right now is that most of his complaints are valid, it’s just his reaction that’s the problem. Priest” “The guy” who could lead the show as World Champion, but if we’re being honest, most wrestlers don’t. But the storyline is better with McIntyre being betrayed and freed up for Punk’s imminent return, while the winner of this match is almost certain to face Gunther at SummerSlam. Pick: Damian Priest retains the title – Brent Brookhouse (also Shakeel Mahjouri)
I know the most popular option right now is to have CM Punk beat McIntyre again, but I can’t shake the feeling that WWE wants to go in a different direction. Without Rhea Ripley, Seth Rollins and Becky Lynch, Raw has been lacking star power lately and much of the show each week has been built around Judgment Day. And no disrespect to Priest, but he hasn’t exactly filled the “top man” role the show needs. There are better options right now with McIntyre, Gunther, Jey Uso and Sami Zayn. And if they book Punk to upset Drew again they’ll have to focus on that match immediately, and I haven’t heard anything that definitively confirms that Punk is free from his triceps tear. McIntyre vs. Punk is still the end game and Gunther will likely be World Champion by the end of the summer. But, at least for now, it’s time to change things up and strip Priest of the title. Pick: Drew McIntyre will win the title — Connor Casey
Undisputed WWE Championship – Cody Rhodes (c) vs. AJ Styles (“I Quit” Match)
So after the latest filler arc in Saudi Arabia with Logan Paul, Cody is back in business with AJ Styles. While I’ve always believed Styles is at his best as a heel, there’s no chance he’ll let Cody drop the title via an “I Quit” stipulation. Plus, he needs to quickly get into the Cody vs. Randy Orton event people have been waiting for. In a scenario where the returns of Roman Reigns and The Rock are inevitable, the last thing Rhodes’ title reign needs is to spin its wheels. Pick: Cody Rhodes retains the title — Casey (also Brookhouse and Mahjouri)
WWE Women’s Championship – Bayley (c) vs. Piper Niven
Anyone who has spent some time with wrestling knows about a busy short-term title feud. It’s great that Niven is getting a big spot in Scotland, but I don’t think anyone will buy her as the champ here. Bayley’s championship run hasn’t been great and that makes such an obvious match a little more disappointing, but we know that Nia Jax gets a title shot at SummerSlam and Bayley vs. Jax is the obvious play instead of a heel vs. heel showdown. Pick: Bayley retains the title — Brookhouse (also Casey and Mahjouri)
Intercontinental Championship – Sami Zayn (c) vs. Chad Gable
It would be great to see Gable finally win singles gold, but I have a feeling that will happen soon. The triple threat match with Bronson Reed seemed like a convenient way to get the title on Gable while building up the feud with Zayn, but the reigning champion retained it. It’s also clear that WWE’s current regime favors long-term title reigns. The internal turmoil of the Alpha Academy is solid pro wrestling television. Otis’ role in particular makes the outcome of their title match a wild card. Otis, however reluctantly, has favored Gable at every turn. He will be the difference maker in this match in some way. I’ll side with Zayn but will be thrilled to hear “more new.” Pick: Sami Zayn retains the title — Mahjuri
Assuming Gable stays, WWE could easily have him feud with Otis and the remaining members of the Alpha Academy, as well as his new disciples in The Creed Brothers. Meanwhile, assuming WWE wants to shake up Raw’s main event scene, Zayn could easily transition into the main event via a Money in the Bank ladder match and/or a program with Drew McIntyre and a rematch with Gunther. Pick: Chad Gable to win the title — Casey (also Brookhouse)
WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship – Bianca Belair and Jade Cargill (c) vs. Alba Fair and Isla Dawn vs. Shayna Baszler and Zoey Stark
Belair and Cargill are among the biggest favorites on the card. The champions defeated Baszler and Stark on a recent episode of Raw, making their inclusion in the match a head-scratcher. The same applies for Fair and Dawn, who have been non-factors on the main roster. Unlike most matches scheduled for Clash at the Castle, this one is all about getting people on the card. Belair and Cargill are high priority for the promotion and need to defend the title. The main purpose of the sudden inclusion of Fair and Dawn is to get Dawn a match in her home nation of Scotland. No complaints there. It’s great that WWE is showcasing so much Scottish talent on a major show. This could be seen as an easy title defense for the champion. Pick: Bianca Belair and Jade Cargill retain the title — Mahjouri (also Casey and Brookhouse)
