Adam Sandler’s daughters urge him to eat better: ‘I want this guy around’

When your children make laws, you should also follow them.

At least, that’s what Adam Sandler believes when his daughters Sadie, 18, and Sunny, 15 — who he lives with, his wife Jackie Sandler — encourage him to take his health seriously.

“They’ve always looked after me and my health, just like I looked after my dad’s,” Sandler told People on Tuesday. “You’re like, ‘Man, I want this guy around,’ so I would yell at my dad to quit smoking, and my kids would yell at me to calm down and try to eat a little more like a normal person.”

Meanwhile, this is not the first time the 57-year-old’s children have questioned his health habits.

Sandler revealed on “The Joe Rogan Experience” podcast earlier this month that his workout routine has diminished as the years have gone on.

“I used to take working out really seriously … and now I can’t do it at all,” he told host Joe Rogan.

“I play hoops and then I eat,” he added. “Every time I eat I think, ‘What are you doing, man? You don’t have to do this.’ I can’t stop, I’m just getting a little fat.”

However, it is not easy for the comedian to get back into the same routine these days. Sandler also revealed that Sadie wanted him to start working with the same trainer with whom he shot the 2008 film “You Don’t Mess with the Zohan.”

“It’s very difficult now,” he confessed about getting in shape. “My kids, one daughter, Sadie, always say, ‘Dad, call the trainer from Zohan. Why did you quit? Why did you stop?'”

As Sandler told his eldest son, “It’s a lot of work.”

“I can’t go back there,” Sandler said. “He’s right about everything. [but] I don’t make any promises to him. I say, ‘Let me think about it; it’s a good idea.’”

But there came a time when the “Grown Ups” star was able to put in the effort.

“When I was 18 to 23, I hid it really hard,” he recalled, with Rogan adding that he “looked good” while filming “You Don’t Mess with the Zohan.”

Why doesn’t he want to call his old trainer? Sandler said, “I found the best guy who prepared me for “Zohan,” and I love him. It’s just that I look at him and I love him so much that I say, ‘Let’s keep it a friendship. I don’t want it to ruin the friendship.'”

The “Happy Gilmore” actor still stays active by playing basketball five times a week, which “keeps me fit.”

“I still don’t want to take my shirt off, but I play four or five times a week,” Sandler joked.

But one thing is clear: The “Murder Mystery” star’s family will always be by her side throughout her journey.

In fact, Sandler praised his wife on their wedding anniversary in June last year.

“Happy 20th Birthday to my sweet Jackie! You saying ‘yes’ was the best gift of my life,” he wrote on Instagram at the time, alongside a photo from their wedding.

“My heart belongs to you ever since I saw you and I love and appreciate your devoted spirit more every day. Us. Baby. Let’s keep going and keep going babe,” he concluded. “So much love to give you. Always.”
