Amy Robach says George Stephanopoulos predicted Ben Affleck, J.Lo divorce: ‘I give it six months’
George Stephanopoulos looks at the breakup of Bennifer 2.0.
According to her former “Good Morning America” co-anchors TJ Holmes and Amy Robach, the 63-year-old TV host predicted Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez’s divorce the day after their wedding in 2022.
On Wednesday’s episode of their “Amy & TJ” podcast, the couple recalled how they were on the set of “GMA” with Stephanopoulos, 63, one day after Affleck, 52, and Lopez, 55, got married.
They were unclear about whether this would happen after their ex-spouses’ wedding in Las Vegas in July 2022 or after their wedding in Georgia in August 2022.
Robach, 51, told Holmes, 47, “You came in and you said, ‘This is a great story. It’s been 17 years in the making.'” She added that at the time, she thought of Lopez and Affleck’s relationship as a “fairy tale.”
“We were excited, really happy for both of them,” Robach said. “However, George Stephanopoulos rolled his eyes and said, ‘I’ll give it six months,’ or something like that.”
“I mean, that was probably the right way to look at it,” Roback said.
Holmes, however, didn’t agree with Stephanopoulos’ negative opinion of Affleck and Lopez’s relationship.
“We say everybody loves a love story, but then we find it so hard to be happy for people who are in love,” he said. “We get disappointed when we see someone else so happy.”
“And then we become so invested and almost delight in someone else’s death and that pain,” Holmes continued. “Someone who said, ‘I’ll give it six months,’ might do that. [saying now]‘I told you so.’ We can sit down and say, ‘Ha ha.’ I hate that mentality.”
The Post has contacted representatives for Stephanopoulos, Affleck and Lopez for comment.
Lopez filed for divorce from Affleck just two years after their wedding ceremony in Georgia.
They set the official date of their separation as April 26, 2024, which was shortly before breakup rumors began swirling when Lopez attended the Met Gala alone.
According to People, Affleck had no interest in fixing his marriage with Lopez, which led to Lopez’s decision to file for divorce.
According to Page Six, a source claimed their relationship problems actually began during their honeymoon in Lake Como, Italy.
“While it was the happiest time of their lives, they barely spoke to each other,” the insider explained. “He made her believe he was a changed man, and that was short-lived.”
During her podcast episode, Holmes said she texted Robach just after 3 a.m. to give her the news about Affleck and Lopez.
“I texted you, ‘Good morning. I’m so sad. The first thing on my phone is J.Lo filing for divorce,'” he said.
Holmes and Robach — who was fired from “GMA” in January 2023 due to their secret affair — both called the Bennifer divorce “heartbreaking.”
“It’s pretty gut-wrenching, man,” Holmes said. “That was it. It was one that I could look at and say, ‘You know, the timing wasn’t right … and then finally, the timing was right, and that’s it, and it’s going to work out.'”
He added: “Hey, I was just supporting him.”
