Artem Chigvintsev, arrested on domestic violence charges, will not return as ‘DWTS’ pro in season 33
Artem Chigvintsev will not return to “Dancing With the Stars” for Season 33 as a professional, Page Six has confirmed.
“There were never any plans for Artem to be a part of Season 33,” a source told Us on Thursday.
The insider shared this information with us shortly after the news broke that Chigvintsev, 42, was arrested for domestic violence in Napa Valley, California, at 10 a.m. local time on Thursday.
A representative for the Napa County Sheriff’s Office told TMZ that officers responded to a domestic violence call in Yountville, California and arrested the dancer at the scene.
The outlet reported that there were injuries and that the victim has asked for “complete confidentiality.”
Chigvintsev’s bail was set at $25,000, according to online records viewed by Page Six.
It’s unclear at this time if the dancer’s wife, Nikki Garcia, was present or involved in the alleged incident. However, she did post an Instagram Story of herself in the wine region the day before.
The full list of celebrities competing on the new season — along with their professional partners — will be revealed Sept. 4 on “Good Morning America.”
ABC does not comment on casting rumors prior to an official announcement.
Chigvintsev’s arrest came just days after he and his wife celebrated their second wedding anniversary on Monday.
Both Chigvintsev, 42, and Garcia, 40, posted sweet posts on Instagram to celebrate the milestone.
“Happy anniversary my love, I can’t see my life without you [sic] You are my everything ❤️,” he captioned two photos from their wedding day.
Meanwhile, Garcia opened up about their “love story” and reflected on “falling in love with her,” explaining that when they began dating in early 2019, she knew it was “meant to be.”
The couple welcomed son Matteo in July 2020 and tied the knot two years later in Paris.
The former professional wrestler and the “Strictly Come Dancing” alumnus met after competing together on Season 25 of “DWTS.”
Chigvintsev joined the show as a crew member in 2014, and was promoted to full-time professional later that year.
The Russian native competed as a pro for nine seasons. He was temporarily removed from the lineup along with fellow dancer Sharna Burgess during Season 28 in 2019, which shocked viewers at the time.
“It’s weird. To have devoted the last 10 years to something, to have given it my all [into it] … It’s not even a job, it’s a lifestyle if you’re doing it for too long,” Chigvintsev said in an August 2019 episode of the “Bellas” podcast.
Chigvintsev admitted that while “there is always a possibility” that someone will not return as a professional player, he “never really” thought he would be at risk of being dropped from the team.
“It’s like going through a 10-year breakup — and having good memories of the breakup. This show really exposed me. Not just as a dancer or a teacher, it exposed me as someone who can find those talents in their partner … and make something out of them that they can be proud of. It feels like you’re bringing so much fulfillment to other people’s lives; that’s what this show is all about,” he said.
Chigvintsev returned the following season and most recently competed with “Bachelorette” alum Charity Lawson last fall. The two finished in fourth place, while actress Xochitl Gomez and Val Chmerkovskiy took home the Len Goodman Mirrorball Trophy.
