Ben Affleck’s best friend Matt Damon will join Jennifer Lopez at ‘Unstoppable’ premiere: Report

This is it…now.

Shortly after filing for divorce, Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez have had the odd task of promoting their movie “Unstoppable” together.

Lopez, 55, who stars in a supporting role in the film, will attend the premiere of “Unstoppable” at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival, while Affleck, 52, who produced the movie, will be absent from the red carpet, sources told People on Aug. 23.

Affleck will be joined by his longtime friend Matt Damon, 53, who is also a producer.

The sports drama is produced by Artists Equity — the company co-founded by Affleck and Damon — and also stars Jharrel Jerome, Bobby Cannavale, Michael Pena and Don Cheadle.

Based on a true story, “Unstoppable” is about Anthony Robles (Jermo), a wrestler who was born with one leg. Lopez plays his mother.

The Post has contacted representatives for Affleck, Lopez and Damon for comment.

In March 2023, while speaking to CBS Sunday Mornings, Affleck spoke about working on the film with his then-wife.

“What fun, what a joy it is to do something with her,” he said, “to watch her be great, to go to work with her wife, to go to work with her best friend.”

Affleck added, “If you don’t like the person that you’re working with, and if you’re having difficulty or trouble at work, I think that’s one of those things that can really cause depression, anxiety and pain for people… It might not seem like she’s doing all of this to do me a favor, but she really is.”

After months of rumors that Lopez and Affleck were on a severance terms, Lopez officially filed for divorce from Affleck on August 20, the second anniversary of their wedding ceremony in Georgia.

The “Jenny From the Block” singer cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for her split from Affleck after two years of marriage.

According to the Daily Mail, this choice was made deliberately.

An insider told the publication, “Jennifer said she was tired of being disrespected by Ben and she waited until the two-year anniversary because she wanted it to sting.”

“But it didn’t hurt her,” the insider claimed. “He’s been doing this for a long time and deep down she knows that. She let him do it so she doesn’t look like a villain.”

Another source told US Weekly: “The timing of the divorce was a huge shock to Ben.”

Lopez listed the separation date as April 26, 2024, meaning they have not been together for approximately four months.

Though neither J.Lo nor Affleck spoke about it publicly, it wasn’t all that secret.

Affleck joined Lopez on the red carpet for “This Is Me … Now: A Love Story” in Los Angeles on Feb. 13, but did not accompany her to the Met Gala in May.

That same month, the hosts of “The View” also discussed the couple’s alleged split.

Joy Behar added, “When you shout your love from the rooftops, it’s hard when things don’t go well. My advice is to keep your mouth shut.”

According to TMZ, there was no pre-nup between the estranged couple.

Affleck recently left his $60 million marital mansion and purchased a $20.5 million home. The property they bought together is currently on the market.

The couple first got together in 2002 but broke off their first engagement in 2004.

They went on to marry and have children with other people, respectively. Affleck shares children Violet, 18, Seraphina, 15, and Samuel, 12, with his first ex-wife Jennifer Garner, 52, from whom he split in 2015 after 10 years of marriage. Lopez is mom to twins Emme and Max, 16, with her ex-husband Marc Anthony.

Two decades later, Affleck and Lopez rekindled their romance and tied the knot at the Little White Chapel in Las Vegas in July 2022. They held a second and more lavish wedding ceremony at Affleck’s home in Riceboro, Georgia on August 20, 2022.

In Lopez’s Prime Video documentary, “The Greatest Love Story Never Told” (now streaming), Affleck said that when they rekindled their relationship, she had one demand.

“Getting back together, I said, ‘Listen, the one thing I don’t want is a relationship on social media,'” he said in the film.

But, at that time, he gave up.

“Then I realized it’s not an appropriate question to ask. It’s like you’re getting married to a boat captain and (you think), ‘Well, I don’t like the water.'”

“We’re two people with very different viewpoints trying to learn to compromise,” he said onscreen.
