Ben Affleck’s ‘erratic mood swings’ caused ‘toxicity’ during J.Lo’s marriage: report

Grumpy Ben.

Ben Affleck’s “erratic mood swings” led to his split from Jennifer Lopez, who recently filed for divorce from her husband after two years of marriage, a source has revealed.

“The truth is, there was a lot of love between the two, but unfortunately it became apparent that Ben had mood swings that he couldn’t hide from the press, no matter how hard he tried,” an insider told People in a report published on Saturday.

“You could see erratic behavior, huge mood swings,” the source added, claiming that the “Argo” actor/director, 52, would go from being “incredibly happy and warm — the best light coming out of him” to “the deepest, darkest behavior.”

“I think he was sending a message to the press,” the insider said of Affleck.

During his marriage to Lopez, 55, it was clear that Affleck wasn’t enjoying the public attention his relationship was receiving.

Meanwhile, Lopez embraced the cameras following her and Affleck. They also released a new album and an accompanying documentary about their romance.

The source added that the ex-couple — who were together in the early 2000s and reconnected two decades later — couldn’t move on from Affleck’s unpredictable moods.

The insider added, “They were trying to work on it, but when the mood swings and major downtimes lead to a toxicity that’s all-encompassing, no one can help you — you have to help yourself.”

“But I wouldn’t dare say there isn’t love – of course there is,” the source added. “The world was happy for them, but who he said he was and who he turned out to be were two different people.”

The Post has not received a response from representatives for Affleck or Lopez.

The “Hustlers” actress officially filed for divorce from Affleck on August 20, their second wedding anniversary.

He gave the date of separation as April 26, 2024, confirming they were no longer a couple after she celebrated her 55th birthday without him or their second wedding anniversary in July while they were on opposite coasts.

The couple reportedly did not sign a prenuptial agreement – meaning all income, benefits and assets earned during their marriage are considered community property. Lopez also decided not to request spousal support and urged the judge not to award support to Affleck either.

Two months before their split, Lopez admitted in her documentary, “The Greatest Love Story Never Told,” that Affleck was hesitant to publicly reveal details about their life together.

“I don’t think he’s super comfortable with me doing all of this,” she admitted in one part of the documentary. “But he loves me, he knows I’m an artist and he’s going to support me in any way he can because he knows he can’t stop me from making the music that I make and writing the words that I write. It’s going to happen and he doesn’t want to stop me.”

“He wants to do that [for me]But that doesn’t mean she’s comfortable being a role model,” the mother of two said.

Affleck explained his fears of talking about their rekindled romance ahead of their wedding and subsequent divorce in 2022.

“One of the hardest lessons I’ve learned is that it’s not wise to share everything with the world,” the actor told The Wall Street Journal in December 2021.

“I know I feel more comfortable creating healthy boundaries in my life, and saying in a friendly and clear way that I don’t want to talk about my personal relationships in the tabloids,” he said.
