Despite claiming he has retired from boxing numerous times, WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury wants boxing fans to know that he has no intention of walking away from the sport anytime soon. in a video posted on his social mediaFury claims he has drawn up a plan for his next five fights while claiming to be in the prime of his life.

Fury has recently had to deal with frustrations suffered in training, his February 17 bout with WBA, WBO and IBF heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk being postponed to be crowned the undisputed heavyweight champion of the four belt era. The match has been rescheduled for May 18 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

The fight with Usyk will be Fury’s first since fighting former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou in late 2023. In that fight, Fury was knocked out and narrowly escaped one of the most shocking upsets in boxing history when he fought to a split decision.

Usik and Ngannou are two of the names on Fury’s five-fight plan, along with fellow UK superstar Anthony Joshua.

“I’ve been telling people I should retire or I’m going to retire soon,” Fury said in the video. “I’m not going to retire anywhere. I’ve got two fights with Usyk to be undisputed. Then I’m going to fight AJ at least once, maybe twice if there’s a rematch, if he wants one after the first battering, I’m going to give it to him. And then I’m going to fight Ngannou again. This is just for starters. You’ve got five little fights for you to whet your appetite. I’m not going anywhere. I’m 35 years old. Prime of my life.”

Fury previously claimed he retired after a win over Dillian Whyte in 2022 only to return later that year to fight Derek Chisora. He has announced or hinted at retirement a few more times.

More boxing news, rumours

  • Matchroom boxing promoter Eddie Hearn says he will follow up on the trash talk between Conor Benn and Garvonta “Tank” Davis. Davis has not fought since defeating Ryan Garcia in April 2023 in a box office mega-draw. After Benn defeated Peter Dobson on February 3, Davis took shots at Benn for a somewhat poor performance. The following argument between the two quickly leads to discussions of fighting. It’s not the high-profile fight many want for WBA lightweight champion Davis, arguably boxing’s top star, and Ben Baggage after failing a drug test ahead of his scrapped fight with Chris Eubanks Jr. Ben is currently banned from fighting in the UK. And Hearn suggested in a video that the fight would likely take place on American soil.
  • Tuesday, the longtime middleweight and super middleweight contenders John Ryder has announced his retirement Ryder has lost almost every major fight in his career since the sport, although his loss to Callum Smith in 2019 is seen as the worst robbery in modern championship boxing history. Had Ryder gotten the win he deserved he would have been the WBA and Ring Magazine champion. Ryder lost the last two fights of his career, a decision to Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and a TKO to Jaime Munguia.
  • Jaron “Boots” Ennis may be one of the best boxers on the planet, but don’t expect him to have a crack at Terence Crawford, according to Crawford trainer Brian “Bomac” McIntyre. “He brings nothing to the table,” McIntyre said recently when asked about a possible fight between the two. “He’s got the rest of us. … Why would Bud want to back down? Bud’s looking for bigger and better fights so he can etch his name in concrete forever.”
