There is another change in the top line of the updated bracket. It took a few weeks, but eventually North Carolina and Kansas lost enough games to open the door for Tennessee to clinch the fourth overall seed. Purdue, UConn and Houston hold their spots as the top three seeds.

The SEC and Big 12 lead the way with nine teams in each bracket. The Mountain West is in third place with six teams. This has certainly been a banner year for the conference. San Diego State made the Final Four last season as a No. 5 seed. The Aztecs and a few other teams will likely be positioned to try to repeat that feat.

The Big East is the smallest conference of the Big Six with 11 teams and the newest bracket has five teams. Nine teams in the league are ranked 66th or higher in NET, so there is still time for a few others to step up.

This has been a particularly disappointing year for the Big Ten and the ACC by their standards. The Big Ten has five teams in the field, with Michigan State bouncing in and out from one bracket to the next. The Spartans are the first team today. Nebraska and Northwestern are still waiting for that big win away from home to boost their stock. Everyone else is basically in it except Michigan, which has fallen flat this season.

The ACC has been well ahead of the pack with North Carolina, Duke and Clemson being teams unable to separate from each other. Recently, Virginia has taken a step up thanks to a seven-game winning streak that includes a win at Clemson. Of those four teams, only Pitt and Virginia Tech have even managed a three-game winning streak since the beginning of conference play. The streak continues for the Panthers when they visit Virginia on Tuesday.

Unlike its football teams, Pac-12 basketball hasn’t exactly been blowing up. No. 2 seed Arizona is the only team of four in the bracket seeded higher than No. 7. Oregon is one of the “First Four Out” and the only other team that has a realistic shot at putting together a quality tournament run on a large scale. resume.

Dayton, Indiana State and Saint Mary’s are currently comfortably in the field as their conference’s only representatives and we may have a chance for some bid stealers this season. This bracket has one in South Florida, the current leader of the AAC. The Bulls are alone in first place after FAU lost in overtime at UAB on Thursday night.
