Bristol Palin reveals how her 15-year-old son Tripp told her he was leaving their home in Texas for Alaska: ‘I couldn’t believe it’

Bristol Palin said she “couldn’t believe it” when her teenage son Tripp sent a six-word message saying he was moving out of their Texas home.

Earlier this month, former Gov. Sarah Palin’s daughter said her 15-year-old son had moved to Alaska to “be closer to his dad.”

There, Tripp will live with his father Levi Johnston, 34, and stepmother Sunny Johnston, 32, and stepsisters Breeze, 13, Indie, 8, and Delta, 5.

“He texted me and said, ‘Hey Mom. I’m not coming back,'” she revealed on the “Sex, Lies and Spray Tans” podcast.

“Oh, I couldn’t believe it. At first I was like, ‘I’m coming to Alaska, we’re not doing this.’ I was so angry. So angry.”

“It’s still very sad for me because it was just Tripp and I, and then I had my daughters, but it’s always been Tripp and I,” said Bristol, who is from Wasilla, Alaska. “It’s changed a lot.”

Bristol admitted she knows her 16-year-old son needs to be close to his father as he approaches adolescence.

“All I can do is hope and pray that everything goes well,” she said, adding that she is thinking about moving to Alaska, where many of her relatives still live.

She added, “Selfishly, I just think, ‘I want him with me forever. He’s my best friend. My kids are my whole world.’ But I can’t be selfish about it.”

Earlier this month, Bristol took to social media to explain how her son’s move had affected her.

“This has been the hardest ‘first day of school’ I’ve ever had, with the biggest piece of my heart missing,” said Bristol, 33. “Tripp has decided to finish high school in Alaska to be closer to his dad and our entire family.”

She added, “If you know Tripp you know he lives for hunting/fishing and I honestly can’t blame him for wanting to get back home.”

She later shared a photo of her two young daughters, revealing she was experiencing some bittersweet emotions.

“As difficult as it has been to come to this decision – it’s really not about what I want,” she said. “And that relationship with his father is far more important than my own selfish desire to keep him with his mother forever!”

Bristol also has two daughters, Sailor Grace, 8, and Atlee Bay, 7, with her ex-husband Dakota Meyer, 36.
