Brittany Cartwright files for divorce from Jax Taylor after 5 years of marriage, seeks custody of son
“Vanderpump Rules” star Brittany Cartwright has filed for divorce from her husband Jax Taylor, looking to end their marriage after five years.
The 35-year-old reality TV personality filed for divorce on Tuesday, Aug. 27, according to court documents obtained by The Post.
Cartwright asked the court for legal and physical custody of the couple’s three-year-old son, Cruz, and said she was willing to give Taylor visitation rights.
“The Valley” star cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for the divorce and listed the couple’s separation date as Jan. 24. He requested that neither he nor Taylor be awarded spousal support.
Cartwright and Taylor announced their separation in February.
“Yeah, marriages in general are very hard and the last year has been especially hard for me,” Cartwright said on her and Taylor’s podcast, “When Reality Hits with Jax & Brittany,” on Feb. 29.
“Jacques and I have been living apart for a while and I’ve decided to move into another house for a while for my own mental health,” she said.
Cartwright’s decision comes shortly after Taylor received treatment at an in-patient facility to deal with his mental health issues.
“Jax has always been open about his mental health struggles, especially over the last few months on his podcast,” Taylor’s rep said in a statement to The Post on July 30.
“He has decided to be hospitalized and receive treatment,” Taylor’s rep said. “This is a particularly sensitive time for him and his family. He asks for privacy and respect until he is ready to speak more about this matter.”
Taylor reportedly left treatment last week and returned to work on Season 2 of “The Valley,” which depicts the many troubles in his and Cartwright’s marriage.
When The Post contacted representatives for Cartwright and Taylor about the divorce, they said, “No comment.”
In April, Taylor revealed he was working on himself in hopes of getting Cartwright back.
“We’re just trying to figure things out,” he told Entertainment Tonight at the time. “I’ll give you a real-time view, I don’t know what’s going to happen. I’m definitely working on myself right now.”
“Being apart has definitely been good for me, but I miss her so much,” he said. “I miss her so much. So, I don’t know, we’ll see if she’ll take me back or not.”
The pair began dating in 2015 and got engaged in June 2018. Taylor and Cartwright married in June 2019 in a fairytale-themed ceremony at the Kentucky Castle in Versailles, Kentucky.
