Brittany Cartwright files for divorce from Jax Taylor after 5 years of marriage
Brittany Cartwright has officially filed for divorce from Jax Taylor, Page Six can confirm.
Court documents filed Tuesday in Los Angeles and obtained by Page Six show “The Valley” star, 35, has filed for a dissolution of marriage with a minor child, as her former spouses share a 3-year-old son, Cruz.
According to the paperwork, they cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for the split, and the date of separation was January 24, 2024, which is the day before her birthday.
Cartwright asked the judge to waive spousal support for herself and Taylor (whose real name is Jason Cauchi). She also wants legal and physical custody of her child, as well as visitation rights for her ex-husband.
Regarding what rights she wants to have to her assets, Cartwright wants to keep all assets she received as a gift, inheritance, whether before the marriage or after the date of separation.
However, the documents also mention that the specific nature of the assets and debts in the case “has yet to be determined.” Their quasi-community assets will also be determined later.
Cartwright and Taylor, 45, have several joint businesses. In addition to appearing on “The Valley,” they also opened a bar called Jax Studio City and run a podcast called “When Reality Hits.”
Cartwright first announced their separation in February after nearly five years of marriage.
“Yeah, marriages in general are very hard, and the last year has been especially hard for me,” he said via his podcast at the time.
“Jacques and I have been living apart for a while and I’ve decided to move into another house for a while for my own mental health.”
Fans speculated at the time if this was to boost ratings for the relationship drama “The Valley” – which was about to air – though a rep for the former couple quickly shut it down.
Cartwright explained on the season finale of her show what really led to their breakup.
“He would go out to bars and stuff, come home and have a terrible hangover, which made him as vicious as a snake,” she told her co-stars during the episode.
“Finally, after he was yelling at me for hours … I packed up mine and Cruise’s stuff and we moved out of that house,” the Bravo star said.
“I got to this point where I started to notice everything he did to me.”
Taylor has admitted to suffering from serious mental health and anger issues, which forced him into a mental health centre for treatment last month.
“Jax has always been open about his mental health struggles, especially on his podcast over the last few months. He has decided to seek treatment in a hospital,” his rep previously told Page Six.
“This is a particularly sensitive time for him and his family. He asks for privacy and respect until he is ready to speak more about this matter.”
Taylor is getting help while filming for the second season of “Valley.” Meanwhile, Cartwright has been spending time with “Bachelorette” alum Tanner Cortaday — though his status is unclear.
Cartwright and Taylor’s relationship came to light long ago when they began dating in 2015.
They first appeared together on “Vanderpump Rules,” and before they tied the knot, a cheating scandal broke out between them that nearly tore them apart.
During Season 6 of the hit series, Taylor was accused of infidelity with former co-star Faith Stowers.
However, Cartwright eventually forgave him and the two married at a castle in the former’s home state of Kentucky in June 2019. They welcomed Cruz in April 2021.
The reality star’s rep declined to comment on the divorce filing.
