Brooke Shields’ daughter Greer didn’t know about her mother’s sexual abuse until documentary ‘Miscommunication’

Brooke Shields’ youngest daughter, Grier Henchy, learned that her mother was once sexually assaulted after watching the famous actress’ 2023 documentary, “Pretty Baby.”

“I was learning about things at the same time the world was, and I took it a lot more deeply and personally,” the 18-year-old said in a People magazine cover story alongside her mother and sister, Rowan Henchy.

Greer then admitted that she “didn’t even watch the whole two-part series.”

In the Hulu documentary, Shields, now 59, revealed for the first time that she was raped by a well-known Hollywood executive, whom she did not name, who was 20 at the time.

The “Blue Lagoon” star revealed she went to dinner with the unidentified man to discuss potential projects and then agreed to follow him to his hotel.

“I go into the hotel room, and he disappears for a little while,” she said in the document, adding that she then picked up the binoculars but was shocked when the executive returned a short time later, naked.

“I put the binoculars down and he was right in front of me. Like wrestling,” Shields added. “I was scared I was going to get strangled or something.”

The “Suddenly Susan” alum admitted she was “absolutely numb” during this difficult time and that she “shut it down” because she thought to herself at the time, “‘Stay alive and get out.’

“God knows I knew how to detach from my body,” Shields admitted. “I practiced it.”

The now mother of two tells PEOPLE that her eldest daughter, Rowan, 21, knew about her experience but “didn’t prepare” Greer for it.

“It was a misunderstanding,” the “Pretty Baby” star said, sharing that she told her teenage self about the complex topics discussed in the doc, such as the “sexualization of women” in Hollywood.

However, Shields thought that because she felt she and her children had “a solid, healthy, fairly normal existence” and were not “totally damaged” by what happened to them, Greer may have said, “‘Wow, you’ve been through a lot, but look where we are today.'”

The “Endless Love” star said she even told her young daughter that the series had a “happy ending,” but Greer didn’t buy that.

“I’ll never feel good thinking that something bad happened to you,” the college student told her mother.

“She felt helpless, and as a mom, we make mistakes and sometimes we make assumptions,” Shields said.

The former model previously revealed that she “got in trouble” for hiding details about her past from her two daughters and that they were “upset” that she “didn’t tell them everything.”

Shields told People that she understands why they feel that way, saying, “It’s a weird situation to be in, to watch documentaries or to see your parents as public figures that other people have opinions about.”

“I’ve learned so much from listening to him,” the “Mother of the Bride” star concluded.
