Eva Mendes admits her and Ryan Gosling’s kids are ‘not impressed’ by their movies
Eva Mendes’ harshest critics are her own children.
The “Training Day” star, 50, revealed on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” on Wednesday that her and Ryan Gosling’s two daughters, Esmeralda Amada, 10, and Amada Lee, 8, have never seen any of her movies.
“They don’t care,” Mendes said. “This was about a year ago. I tried to show them a scene from ‘Hitch’ that I was really proud of because I’m scared of deep, dark water. I had to do this physical comedy stunt in the Hudson [River]”I was so scared. So I faced my fear that day and I did this stunt. I am proud of it.”
“One time, one of my girls was scared and I thought, ‘Oh, here’s a chance to show off,'” Mendes said. “I played it for them and I thought, ‘This is mom facing her fears.'”
However, Esmeralda and Amada were “not impressed at all” after watching a snippet of their mother’s 2005 film with Will Smith.
“They were just saying, ‘OK, Mom, can we go out?’” “They didn’t care,” Mendes said.
After working in the business for 16 years, Mendes stepped away from acting in 2014 to take care of her children and focus on other business ventures.
But it was her voice role — in an episode of “Bluey” in 2021 — that caught her daughters’ attention.
“Now that has them hooked!” Mendes told Fallon, 50, adding that the animated children’s series is his family’s “favorite show.”
He also revealed that he had also requested for the role of a yoga instructor in the show.
Mendes hasn’t acted in ten years, but Gosling, 43, remains a big Hollywood star. And not surprisingly, his movie “Barbie” became very popular with his daughters.
“It was beautiful because the girls were such a huge part of it,” Mendes said of his partner in the 2023 Greta Gerwig film, in which he stars opposite Margot Robbie.
“He had a huge role in her saying yes and taking the role,” she added. “There were 30 Barbies sitting in the house and a Ken, so she was like, ‘There’s something here.'”
Mendes is doing press for her first children’s book, “Desi, Mami, and the Never-Ending Worries.” When she stopped by “Good Morning America” on Tuesday, she said her daughters are fans of the book.
“They like it — I think they like it. They’re very harsh critics, though,” he told George Stephanopoulos. “They’ve seen it in every incarnation. But at first they were just like, ‘Mmmh.’ I was like, ‘I’m listening to you.'”
“But one day I got really excited. My little girl, who just turned 10, was having a lot of trouble and I swear I walked into her room and she was reading a book. I started crying, Mom. But it was really bothering me.”
Earlier this year, Mendes revealed that she and Gosling – who have been together since 2011 – had made a “nonverbal agreement” to put their acting careers on hold to raise their children.
“It was like, okay, he’ll work and I’ll work, I’ll just work here,” she said.
The couple keeps their daughters mostly out of the spotlight, though they did take them to the Paris Olympics over the summer.
