Eva Mendes reveals she will never be able to act again because of Ryan Gosling
Eva Mendes opens up about her future in Hollywood.
After stepping away from acting 10 years ago to focus on raising her and Ryan Gosling’s two children, the 50-year-old star appeared on “Good Morning America” on Tuesday and was asked what it would take for her to return to the big screen.
“I don’t know. If there are — you know — if there are interesting roles out there,” she said while promoting her first children’s book, “Desi, Mammy, and the Never-Ending Worries.”
“I left at a time when it was also like… ten years ago, I felt like I did this, you know?” Mendes continued. “I’ve worked with Ryan Gosling, who’s the best. And I had such a — I don’t know — working with him and what we created together was such a great moment in my career that I thought, ‘This is a good time to just make Seinfeld and just get out.'”
“So, who knows?” he said.
Mendes is famous for his roles in films like “Training Day”, “2 Fast 2 Furious”, “Hitch”, “We Own the Night”, “Ghost Rider”, etc.
His last acting role came in 2014 in “The Lost River,” which Written and directed by 41-year-old Gosling.
The pair met three years ago when they played a couple in the crime drama film “The Place Beyond the Pines.”
Mendes and Gosling, who never officially confirmed they were married, have two daughters, Esmeralda Amada, 10, and Amada Lee, 8.
Mendes had to take a long break from acting due to the birth of her children.
She also tried her hand at other careers, such as working as the creative director for Circa Beauty, a cosmetics brand sold at Walgreens.
In 2022, Mendes said on “The View” that she had become more concerned about acting roles.
“The list of what I would do is very short. Like before kids, I was up for anything — I mean, if it was a fun project,” she said, adding that she would not play violent or overtly sexual roles.
The ‘Girl in Progress’ star also credited Gosling for allowing her to stay home with their kids while she pursued acting.
“I’m very fortunate, and I thought if I could spend this time with my kids — and I still worked, I just didn’t act, because acting takes you places, it takes you far,” she said on “Today” earlier this year.
“It was almost a nonverbal agreement,” he said of the couple’s decision to let Mendes leave Hollywood.
“It was like, okay, he will work and I will work, I will work here,” she said.
Mendes said that “there’s only one Ryan, so I almost stopped acting after that.”
