Exclusive | How Anna Delvey ditched her ankle monitor for ‘DWTS’ — despite not being able to take it off
Anna Delvey is sharing the secrets behind her bedazzled ankle monitor for “Dancing With the Stars.”
Ahead of the Season 33 premiere on Tuesday, the “fake heiress” turned fashion publicist spoke exclusively to Page Six Style about how she worked with the show’s wardrobe team to add some shine to her court-ordered tracking device.
“Well, we collaborated with the costume department. Obviously, we couldn’t leave the ankle bracelet unadorned, so we decided to match it [to my dress]Delve, who has been under house arrest since 2022, told.
“And it’s like a little sleeve,” she clarified, noting that the rhinestones were applied to the fabric — not “directly” glued to her ankle monitor, as some “people were complaining about.” “So, it was a fun little thing!”
Her pro partner, Ezra Sosa, also showed off his own version of the ankle bracelet in a recent TikTok promoting the dance competition series. However, his DIY accessory has yet to make an actual appearance on the live shows.
“To be honest, he told me not to do it [wear] Speaking to us on the red carpet, he said, “I was planning on wearing it, but I think it’s probably for later this season.”
Delvey (real name: Anna Sorokin) was the subject of Netflix’s “Inventing Anna” in 2019 after serving time in prison for posing as a German heiress. She made headlines for defrauding businesses and individuals out of more than $250,000 from 2013 to 2017.
She has used her ankle monitor as an assistive device in the past, and earlier this summer she emblazoned it with an “A” mark for a court appearance.
Before saying “yes” to “Dancing With the Stars,” the 33-year-old fashionista had to get special permission from ICE to travel from her hometown of New York to Los Angeles, where rehearsals and live shows take place each week.
What happens when the LA-based show officially ends – or the dance duo is eliminated?
“My primary residence is still in New York, so I would like to move back to New York,” Delvey confirmed, telling us she was recently back in the Big Apple with Sosa for New York Fashion Week. “But for now I’m allowed to travel back and forth [for] I work in LA and stay in touch with my supervisors.”
During Tuesday’s premiere, Delvey’s shiny device took center stage as she and Sousa danced the Cha Cha to Sabrina Carpenter’s “Espresso.” The two received a combined score of 18/30 from judges Carrie Ann Inaba, Derek Hough and Bruno Tonioli.
“I feel good that it’s over,” the fashionista told Page Six moments after the show ended. “I didn’t have any nerves at first, but when the show got closer — because I was last [to dance] – I started getting nervous and felt that I could have done my dance better.
“But hopefully I will improve and do better next time,” she added.
Meanwhile, Sosa was feeling overjoyed after making his professional debut for the first time this season. It was an extra special night as his sister Stephanie also danced in the ballroom as a new member of the troupe.
“It was literally the best [night] “It was a very special moment for me … and it’s great to be in the ballroom with the family,” he said, telling us there were definitely some emotional tears before the show began. “It couldn’t have been a better situation, honestly. It was a really special moment for us.”
“Dancing with the Stars” airs Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC and Disney+.
