Former world number 11 explains how tennis can cause depression

Like any other sport, tennis is as rewarding as it is unforgiving. Athletes work hard day and night, and sometimes the effort is not enough. Professional players are well aware of failure, and they keep moving forward despite facing obstacles along the way. However, when tennis stars dedicate their lives to the sport, they can also lose sight of what’s important, and Alize Cornet can confirm this.

Cornet has etched his name in the history books as the player with the most Grand Slam titles. He made 68 consecutive appearances in major tournaments over 17 years. Furthermore, Cornet’s hard work paid off as she climbed the ranking ladder. He achieved his highest world ranking of 11th in February 2009.

With so much experience behind her, Alize is in a unique position to offer advice to new players. However, the most important advice she can give is that tennis is not life. She opened up about struggling with depression and not knowing who she was when she was younger. At 34, Cornette now has a better understanding of herself.

“I suffered depression at times, because I no longer knew who I was, if I was just a tennis player or a woman, a young woman. So my advice would be that beyond tennis, really take care of who you are as a person.” she said (via welovetennis.fr).

Alize Cornet has been a veteran of the game and one of the most recognizable faces on the tour for nearly two decades. The Frenchman has seen the ups and downs of the game, but he has taken the bull by its horns. In return, Alize has become an experienced warrior. Cornette knows she won’t be able to play much longer, but she wants to enjoy her time for now.

The French player has always done her best and is always looking for ways to improve. After 17 years, Cornette feels she can still learn something new.

However, Cornet’s career has been gradually going downhill and she finished outside the top 100 for the first time last season. He took to social media to reflect on his journey and how he spent 17 years of his career in the top 100.

However, Alize Cornet is not ready to announce anything about her retirement just yet. She knows she’s far from her best, but she still wants to learn new ways to play better. Cornet is at the point where she enjoys her tennis without worrying too much about her ranking.
