Grant Williams traded after leaving Luka Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks unhappy?

Theories as to why the Dallas Mavericks decided to trade Grant Williams have captured the attention of the basketball community. As most fans will know, the NBA trade deadline recently passed and many teams across the league have made last-minute trades to improve their chances of competing for the NBA title.

The Dallas Mavericks are one of those teams. Although they traded for Grant Williams from the Boston Celtics to begin the 2023–2024 NBA season, the Mavs decided to include Grant in a trade deal and send him to the Charlotte Hornets to acquire PJ Washington.

While there could be a number of reasons why the Mavericks decided to move on from Williams, recent reports have included some unique angles. That said, fans may be interested in learning more on the topic of a Williams trade.

Grant Williams statistics with Dallas Mavericks

Grant Williams averaged 8.1 points, 3.6 rebounds and 1.7 assists in his 47-game stint with the Dallas Mavericks. Although these numbers aren’t too bad, especially since he contributes more on the defensive end, there were several games where Grant scored 2 or 3 points and clearly wasn’t contributing much for the Mavs.

He shot 1 of 7 and 1 of 6 in back-to-back games against top-tier teams like the Minnesota Timberwolves and Milwaukee Bucks. Although his defense is quite good compared to the rest of the stars on the Mavs roster, it was not enough to make up for the lack of offense that occurred when he was on the court.

Although those reasons alone might be reason enough for Mavericks to betray him, a more unique explanation has recently emerged/

Fans don’t agree that Grant’s shoe choice should be blamed for his business

Despite the fact that it may seem ridiculous, NBA Central sent out a tweet revealing that Grant, who wears Jayson Tatum’s signature shoes instead of Luka Doncic, played a role in urging the team to trade him. While Luka and Tatum are both part of Jordan Brand, they have their own signature shoes.

Upon hearing this report, many fans expressed disbelief that it was a contributing factor in the Mavs’ decision to trade Grant Williams.

The report also said that Grant rubbed a lot of people the wrong way. Although no specifics were ever given as to how or who was involved, none of it changes the fact that Grant was traded and is now part of the Charlotte Hornets.
