How Maisie Williams surprisingly lost 25 pounds to play Catherine Dyer in ‘The New Look’
Maisie Williams had to go through quite a transformation to play Christian Dior’s sister Catherine in the upcoming Apple TV+ series “The New Look.”
The 26-year-old “Game of Thrones” actress admitted she lost 25 pounds to play the fashion designer’s younger sibling.
In a new profile for Harper’s Bazaar UK, she revealed that she was “eating very little, meditating all the time, burning candles and incense in her apartment” to get into the role.
He also revealed that he lost his weight to a great extent by sweating out the toxins.
Her doctors monitored her health closely and performed regular blood tests to make sure she was not falling ill.
“I had to get up at 4 in the morning to sweat. The night before, around 7 or 8 p.m., I was allowed to have something salty and dehydrated,” she said, adding that what she might eat included smoked salmon or a small glass of wine.
“Then I took a boiling-hot bath with lots of salt. Williams continued, “And I lay down in bed and slept maybe three hours, and got up and ate a handful of nuts.
She added: “I won’t be able to sleep through the night right now. I kept waking up and feeling like a marble rattling inside a bottle.”
When she couldn’t get any more shut-eye, she listened to the audiobook on which the show is based, “Miss Dior: A Story of Courage and Couture.”
The “Mary Shelley” actress often had dreams that were “almost like sleep paralysis” – nightmares that made her feel as if she were Katherine herself.
Catherine was a French resistance fighter during World War II and was arrested in 1944. He was deported to Ravensbruck concentration camp in northern Germany and liberated a year later.
Williams said that her dreams had “terrifying visions of men in uniform” and that they made her feel as if she was “being strung up and attacked.”
The cast of “The New Look” includes Ben Mendelsohn as Christian Dior, Juliette Binoche as famed designer Coco Chanel, John Malkovich as French fashion designer Lucien Lelong and Harper’s Bazaar editor-in-chief Carmel Snow. Glenn Close is included.
The fashion drama takes place in post-World War II France and follows Christian as he creates his new line that has earned the nickname “the New Look”.
When this collection hit the runways in 1947 it was not officially named the New Look.
However, the styles were so modern for 1940s Europe that Snow commented, “It’s a whole new look!”
“The New Look” debuts Wednesday, February 14 on Apple TV+.
