Jack McCaffery, son of Iowa coach Fran McCaffery, signed with Butler, following older brother Patrick
Four-star forward Jack McCaffery, the youngest son of Iowa coach Fran McCaffery, signed with Butler on Monday. The No. 113-ranked player in the 2025 recruiting cycle by 247Sports has offers from Bryant, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest, among others.
“They offered me a year ago and continued to recruit me this year,” McCaffery told 247Sports. “They had a coach at every game I played this summer and I felt like they really wanted me. My brother goes there too and he loves it, so that helped me make the decision.”
Not playing for his father has always been part of McCaffery’s recruiting plan. McCaffery told The Gazette earlier this year that he “wanted to try something different” because his older brothers Patrick and Connor played under their father at Iowa. Patrick played five seasons for Iowa before transferring to Butler this past offseason for his final year of eligibility.
“This offense is a great fit for me,” McCaffery said. “They run an interesting type of offense. … I’ll be putting the ball in my hands to make decisions, play open, free, fast and shoot a lot of threes. It fits the way I play and I think it’s a perfect fit for me.”
McCaffery will take an official visit to Butler on Aug. 29.
