Jenna Ortega, 19, says she received explicit photos by AI while she was a minor: ‘Disgusting’
Jenna Ortega is not a fan of AI.
The 19-year-old actress revealed on Saturday’s episode of The New York Times podcast, “The Interview,” that she deleted her Twitter account after receiving explicit photos generated by AI when she was a minor.
“I hate AI,” she said. “I mean, the thing is: AI can be used for incredible things. I think I saw something the other day where they were saying artificial intelligence can detect breast cancer four years earlier. That’s beautiful. Let’s just keep it at that.”
“Did I like having a Twitter account at 14 and seeing dirty edited content about myself as a kid? No. It’s horrific. It’s corrupt. It’s wrong,” he said.
“First [direct message] The “Beetlejuice” star also said, “When I was 12, I had never exposed myself to a picture of a man’s genitals.” “And that was just the beginning of things to come.”
Ortega explained that he initially created an account on Twitter (now X) because he was told it would help him “build his image.”
“I removed it about two, three years ago because of the large number of people who came after the show [‘Wednesday’] “These ridiculous pictures and images came out, and I was so confused that I deleted them,” she said.
Ortega described the AI images as “disgusting”, saying, “I felt bad myself. It made me feel uncomfortable. Anyway, that’s why I deleted it, because I couldn’t say anything without seeing something like that.”
“So one day I suddenly woke up and I thought, ‘Oh, I don’t need this anymore,'” she added. “So I gave it up.”
Although Ortega has left the Elon Musk-owned social media platform, he remains on Instagram, with over 38 million followers.
The “Wednesday” star said deleting her Twitter account was part of her “learning” to keep herself safe.
Ortega began acting at age 9, with her early projects including “Iron Man 3”, “Jane the Virgin” and the Disney Channel series “Stuck in the Middle”.
In her interview with NYT, Ortega explained how she remembers her decision to begin her career in Hollywood at such a young age.
“There are times I regret it, there are times my parents regret it,” she said. “Looking back, I don’t want to change anything. I don’t believe in it because if anything, I’m incredibly grateful for the lessons it taught me, and it taught me so much.”
