Jennifer Lopez ‘relieved’ after filing for divorce from Ben Affleck

After Jennifer Lopez , 55, filed for divorce from Ben Affleck , 52, on Aug. 20, a source told PEOPLE in a story published Monday that she is “doing the best she can.”
“It has been very hard for her that Ben decided to walk away from their marriage and leave her behind and move on with his life,” the insider added.
The source added that the “All I Have” singer didn’t want a divorce. “She wanted to figure things out. They love each other. Jennifer isn’t someone who just gives up. Waiting is almost torture for her.”
The source added that Lopez is “relieved” after filing for divorce.
“Her family and friends agree that this was the right decision. She has a lot of love and support. She will be fine. She is strong and always prevails,” the source added.
Lopez filed for divorce on the second anniversary of the couple’s wedding ceremony in Georgia, after months of rumors that she and Affleck were having a falling out.
The “Jenny From the Block” singer cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for her split from Affleck after two years of marriage.
This choice was reportedly made deliberately.
An insider told the Daily Mail, “Jennifer said she was tired of being disrespected by Ben and she waited until the two-year anniversary because she wanted it to sting.”
“But it didn’t hurt her,” the insider claimed. “He’s been doing this for a long time and deep down she knows that. She let him do it so she doesn’t look like a villain.”
Another source told US Weekly: “The timing of the divorce was a huge shock to Ben.”
Lopez listed the separation date as April 26, 2024, meaning they were no longer a couple for about four months before she filed the application.
According to TMZ, there was no pre-nup agreement between the former couple.
“Bennifer” first got together in 2002 but called off their engagement in 2004.
He went on to marry and start a family with another partner. Affleck has children Violet, 18, Seraphina, 15, and Samuel, 12, with his first ex-wife Jennifer Garner, 52, from whom he split in 2015 after 10 years of marriage. Lopez is mom to twins Emme and Max, 16, with her ex-husband Marc Anthony.
In 2021, Affleck and Lopez rekindled their romance and tied the knot at the Little White Chapel in Las Vegas in July 2022. They held a second and more lavish wedding ceremony at Affleck’s home in Riceboro, Georgia on August 20, 2022.
Affleck reportedly has no relationship with Lopez’s children following the breakup.
A source told People Sunday that the Oscar winner “is not in contact” with Lopez’s twins.
“The fact that he hasn’t seen her kids in a long time makes it seem like he’s left her,” the insider said, adding that while they were together, “[Jennifer] He went out there and told the world what a great father he was.”
Following the divorce, Affleck and Lopez have been tasked with promoting their movie “Unstoppable,” for which Affleck is a producer and Lopez is a co-star.
Sources tell People that Lopez will attend the premiere of “Unstoppable” at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival. Affleck will be absent from the red carpet, but his longtime best friend Matt Damon, who also produced the film, will reportedly join Lopez.
