Joey Lawrence accused of having extramarital affair with married Brazilian co-star Melina Alves amid divorce
Joey Lawrence is accused of having an affair with Brazilian actress and writer Melina Alves, according to divorce documents filed by Alves’ husband.
Elwes stars alongside Lawrence, 48, in the upcoming Christmas movie, βSocked In for Christmas.β
The allegations come just days after it was revealed that Lawrence’s wife Samantha has begun divorce proceedings after two years of marriage.
According to TMZ, Alves’ husband, Edward Ryder, filed for divorce from his estranged wife in New Jersey in late July. Samantha filed her own documents just a few weeks later.
In her filing, Ryder said she learned in late March of the alleged affair between Alves and Lawrence, which she claimed began in California.
According to photos taken on the film’s set of Elwes and Lawrence, the film was shot in Los Angeles in March and April.
According to the Daily Mail, Samantha has stated June 7 as the date of separation between her and Lawrence.
Elwes also wrote the story for the Christmas film in addition to starring alongside Lawrence.
Elwes posted a photo from the film’s set via Instagram on April 18, showing him and Lawrence alongside two other cast members, captioning the photo, “We had a great team, that’s for sure π @joeylawrence.”
She added, “Miss you every day @allisonelliottbeauty! See you soon @ricardochavez33 ππ½ππ #filmmaking #christmasinjuly[.],
Ryder’s documents also claim that the alleged affair between his wife and Lawrence occurred “at other times and places” besides California.
Interestingly, Lawrence met his now-estranged wife on the set of the Lifetime movie, “My Husband’s Secret Brother” in 2020. They got engaged in August 2021 and married in May 2022.
In her divorce application, Samantha cited “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for ending her relationship with Lawrence. She also sought sole custody of her and Lawrence’s daughter Dylan, who was born in January 2023.
The actress also asked that Lawrence be allowed to visit their child only at his own discretion. She further stated that when Dylan turns 3, she would allow the child to spend two nights a week with Lawrence. Samantha requested that she not be allowed to have custody of Dylan until he is older and consents to these visits.
Samantha also sought that marital support be not awarded to either party.
Alves also has a child with her estranged husband.
