Johnny Gaudreau’s widow Meredith posts emotional tribute to Blue Jackets star on social media
for the first time since Columbus Blue Jackets star Johnny Gaudreau died on Thursday night.His widow Meredith has spoken about his passing.
Goudreau and his brother Matthew were bicycling in New Jersey when they were struck and killed by an SUV. The driver of the SUV was under the influence of alcohol when he passed a vehicle on the right and struck the Goudreau brothers.
After Johnny’s tragic death, Meredith Goudreau posted an emotional message about her husband on social media. She posted photos from the years she spent with her husband, as well as photos of Johnny and their two children.
“Thank you for the best years of my life,” Goudreau wrote. “Despite losing you, I am still the luckiest girl in the world to have been yours. I love you so much. You were perfect. Some days it seemed too good to be true. I love every single thing about you. You are mine forever and I can’t wait to be with you again. I love you so much forever and ever.”
Matthew Goudreau’s wife Madeline is pregnant with their first child. A GoFundMe has been set up to support Madeline and their unborn child Tripp following Matthew’s sudden passing.
Since his death, NHL teams and players Tributes have been paid to Johnny and Matthew.
“Johnny played the game with a tremendous joy that was felt by everyone who watched him on the ice,” the Blue Jackets wrote in a statement. “He brought a true love of hockey everywhere he went, from Boston College to the Calgary Flames, Team USA to the Blue Jackets. He thrilled fans in a way only Johnny Hockey could. His impact on our organization and our sport was profound, but that pales in comparison to the indelible mark he left on everyone who knew him.”
