Kelly Osbourne says her first rehab experience was ‘like learning how to be a better drug addict’

Kelly Osbourne says while she was in rehab she learned “a lot of tricks” to keep her drug habit going after she left.

“The first rehab center I went to was like a university for becoming a better drug addict,” she revealed in the new documentary, “TMZ Investigates: Matthew Perry and the Secret Celebrity Drug Ring,” which premieres Monday on Fox.

Osbourne, who had struggled with addiction for years, said she had “learned a lot of things from my fellow addicts that I never thought of.”

The former reality star claimed many threatened to leave rehab if they didn’t receive drugs like Ambien or Valium and were often “given whatever they asked for.”

The 39-year-old man alleged that many rehab centres try to exploit recovering drug addicts by trying to get them to re-enter their programmes.

“They would sit outside AA meetings… [Alcoholics Anonymous] “They look for vulnerable and weak people who they encourage to fall back into addiction so they can get a hold of you again,” Osbourne claimed in the documentary.

While TMZ founder Harvey Levin called that allegation “hard to believe,” she swore on “every word” that her claim was “true.”

During the documentary, the former “Fashion Police” host revealed that as a teenager, doctors would prescribe her various opioid medications without asking any questions.

“It started with Vicodin and progressed to OxyContin,” he said, “which is much more powerful and much more dangerous.”

He recalled telling doctors he was “in pain” and that they “just wrote me a prescription.”

She also claimed doctors didn’t tell her parents, Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne, about their daughter’s prescriptions.

The mother of one began her sobriety journey in 2017. In 2021, she appeared on “Red Table Talk” and revealed that her substance abuse problems began at age 13, when she was prescribed opioids following tonsillitis surgery.

Kelly started drinking again in 2021 but relapsed. She celebrated one year of sobriety on Instagram in May 2022 before welcoming her son, Sydney.

In the shocking documentary, Kelly also revealed that during her teenage years she prescribed her own medication without her parents’ help.

“I would go with an older friend,” Kelly said. “It’s weird when you look back on it now because a 13-year-old would never be able to go into a pharmacy and buy a drug like that without a parent present.”

Kelly has been open about her struggles with drugs and alcohol over the years, however, these days she is focused on raising her one-year-old son.

Just last month, the proud mom shared a video of her trip to the zoo with Sydney. She captioned the sweet post, “Partying with the animals at the zoo!”

Kelly secretly welcomed her baby with Slipknot member Sid Wilson in November 2022.
