King Charles is ‘fed up’ with Prince Harry, plans UK visit, reconciliation ‘won’t be a quick solution’: Expert
As Prince Harry prepares to return to the UK, many are hoping he will be reunited with his father, but one royal expert believes peace talks will not be easy.
On Wednesday, the WellChild Awards in London confirmed on Instagram that the Duke of Sussex is the chief guest for the annual event on September 30. The charity, which supports seriously ill children, is one of the few causes in the UK that the 40-year-old has championed since stepping down as a senior royal in 2020 and moving to California.
British broadcaster and photographer Helena Chard claimed to Fox News Digital that the 75-year-old king, who was diagnosed with cancer in February, is hesitant to meet his younger son.
“All members of the royal family want to make sure their conversations stay private,” Chard told Fox News Digital. “King Charles is absolutely fed up with Prince Harry assuming he can do that [manage] His security demands will not be met. He will not be available 24/7 to accommodate Prince Harry’s demands.”
“However, King Charles loves Prince Harry as a father,” Chard added.[He] I will try to communicate with them, especially on important days.”
Harry has been fighting a court battle over his security in Britain for more than four years.
The Duke of Sussex lost his taxpayer-funded personal security after he gave up his status as a working member of the royal family in 2020.
The Telegraph previously reported that Harry had turned down the King’s invitation to stay at the royal residence when he visited the UK for the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games in May.
The Duke of Sussex reportedly turned down the offer because it had no security arrangements, which, according to The Telegraph, would have meant he would have had to live in a location with public entrances and exits and no police protection.
Instead, Harry stayed at a hotel, as he had done during previous visits.
Representatives for the father and son did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment at the time.
“I think things will improve between King Charles and Prince Harry,” Chard claimed. “Things are moving in the right direction, but it’s not going to be a quick fix.”
Sources close to Charles told Chard that the king will have spoken to Prince Harry on Sunday to mark his landmark birthday. They added that “things are very secret.”
They also revealed that Harry’s upcoming UK trip “has been in the diary for a while.”
“I’m sure he has arranged his own safety,” she said. “It would be nice to think he could live with his father, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he lived at the Althorp Estate again, closer to his ‘Red Aunt’ and Charles Spencer – his aunt and uncle on his late mother’s side. He has a very close relationship with this side of his family, and he feels closer to his mother and safer when he lives at the Estate.”
On May 8, Prince Harry celebrated the important anniversary of the Invictus Games with a thanksgiving service held at St Paul’s Cathedral. Charles and other senior royals attended a garden party at Buckingham Palace two miles away.
Harry’s spokesperson confirmed to Fox News Digital that the King was too busy to meet his son.
Insiders recently told People magazine that Harry is preparing to appeal a court ruling that upheld the decision to deny him security. He wants his security restored so that trips to the U.K. can be more convenient for himself, his wife and their two children.
Sources claimed the issue plays a “key role” in Raja’s ongoing estrangement from his father. Raja has stopped taking his son’s phone calls and has not responded to his letters, sources claimed.
Chard claimed that Harry’s latest move, which came on September 17, National Voter Registration Day, could potentially deepen the rift.
“Prince Harry and Meghan have now entered US politics, releasing a statement through their Archewell Foundation urging people to vote,” he said. “Despite not fully endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris or former President Donald Trump, their words show a sense of awareness.”
“King Charles would not want to be complicit in their inappropriate behavior, especially since he retains his royal titles,” Chard claimed. “He must maintain neutrality.”
The statement released by the Archewell Foundation, the non-profit organisation founded by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, said: “Voting is not just a right; it is a fundamental way to influence the fate of our communities.”
“At the Archewell Foundation, we believe that civic engagement, regardless of political party, is of paramount importance to a more just and equitable world,” the statement added. “By participating in initiatives like this, we aim to spread the message that every voice matters.
“We invite you to join us in this important effort. Together, let’s ensure that every eligible voter is informed and empowered to participate in shaping America’s future.”
It is notable that the British royal family remains neutral in matters of foreign politics.
Harry has offered to personally pay for his police protection while in the U.K., but was rebuffed in court. A friend told People magazine that he feels that, as king, Charles “might intervene.” The issue has driven a wall between father and son, with conversations frustratingly turning to “complete silence” on the part of the king, the friend claimed.
Pulse told the outlet that Harry is “looking forward” to meeting his friends in the UK and working directly, “not via Zoom,” with the charities he is still involved with in his home country. He also wants to bring his family to the UK for a visit, but is concerned about their safety.
Harry arranged a secret trip to his home country for his late uncle Lord Robert Fellowes’ memorial service on Aug. 29. The outlet reported that Harry stayed with his uncle, Earl Charles Spencer, at Althorp.
Chard claimed Harry had “breached the trust between her and other members of the royal family.”
“All royal family members want to ensure their conversations remain private,” they claimed.
In February, Prince Harry reportedly met his father for 45 minutes during a brief visit to the UK.
Harry and his wife’s relationship with their family has been strained since they stepped down from royal duties. At the time, the couple said that the unbearable interference and racist attitudes of the British press prompted them to step down as senior royal members.
The father of two has described his difficult relationship with his family in detail in TV interviews, a documentary and his memoir, “Spare.”
A friend of the couple told People magazine that security had always been a primary concern, with the palace also lacking cooperation.
,[They] “He didn’t feel he had a choice,” the friend told the outlet. “The only choice was — for his own sanity — to leave. I think he may have thought that if he stepped out of this bubble, there would be less attention on him.”
According to the outlet, some close to the palace indicated that Harry’s memoir and interviews have undermined the family’s trust in him. Meanwhile, those close to the prince argued that if he had proper security, he wouldn’t have needed to speak out publicly to help pay for it.
The friend claimed that if the security issue was resolved “the swords would be down.”
,[Nothing] will have to give [Harry] “What’s more heartening than being able to rekindle his bond with his father is that you can’t end your blood relationship,” the friend told the outlet. He’s not asking his dad for a nice house or a nice car. He’s asking because of the reality of the situation. He’s at risk.
