๐ Good morning to everyone, but especially to…
JJ Redick
After weeks of speculation, Los Angeles Lakers It was finally made official. The Lakers hired JJ Redick as their next head coach,
The hiring ends a lengthy coaching search by the Lakers that included a very public courtship Yukon Head Coach Dan HurleyWho Rejected $70 million offer from team,
Redick, who spent 15 seasons as a player in the NBA, has never coached at the professional or collegiate level. In recent years, Redick has risen to prominence through his role as a television analyst and his “The Old Man and the Three” podcast.
Now Redick has suddenly moved from his role in the media to the most high-profile job in basketball: coaching. As you might expect, our own Sam Quinn Redick is the clear winner at the end of this saga,
Anthony DavisDavis, on the other hand, might not be as happy. Davis apparently preferred New Orleans Pelicans assistant James Borrego, with whom he already had a relationship.
Redick’s new job as the head coach of a 17-banner franchise will come with a weight of expectations. Part of that weight comes from coaching Lebron Jameswho has a history of being quite volatile with their head coaches. Our own Bill Reuther The challenges faced by Redick in this regard are mentioned below:,
- Reiter: โLook at the coaching history of his all-time great career. LeBron has had eight full-time head coaches in his career. Only two โ Erik Spoelstra and Ty Lue โ were not let go under his supervision (five coaches were fired and Luke Walton ‘mutually parted ways’ with the Lakers in 2019 before taking the Kings job). And even those two cases require some caveats.โ
Redick’s appointment has already generated a good story about the departed. Kobe BryantAccording to the Carmelo AnthonyBryant Redick harassed during Team USA practice session Before the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
๐ Honorable Mention
๐ฅAnd not so good morning…
Ryan Garcia
Boxer Ryan Garcia will not step into the ring for some time after New York State Athletic Commission he was suspended for one year,
After his win over WBC Junior Welterweight Champion Devin HaneyGarcia tested positive for the banned substance ostarine. The one-year suspension was part of a settlement reached between Garcia’s legal team and the suspension.
Garcia was also fined $10,000 and forced to forfeit $1.1 million he won from his fight with Haney. Garcia beat Haney by majority decision, but it has now been changed to a no contest. Haney may also receive a portion of the prize money.
There was some controversy surrounding Garcia before the fight against Haney, as he weighed in three pounds overweight. Due to his weight, Garcia was ineligible to claim Haney’s title despite winning.
It’s been a long month for Garcia. Just a few weeks ago, he Arrested on felony charges after allegedly causing $15,000 in damage At a hotel in Beverly Hills.
The 25-year-old Garcia will now be out of action for some time as he has been handed a suspension, which takes effect from April 20. With the decision to forgo the contest, Garcia’s career record stands at 24-1-1.

๐ Thunder Earns High Points For Alex Caruso Trade
thunder made a smart move in the NBA trade market yesterday, get alex caruso From Bulls in exchange for Josh Giede,
Over the course of his career, Caruso has gone from an undrafted free agent to a key role player, and now he might be just what the Thunder need to take the next step. With his strong defense and efficient passing, Caruso gives Oklahoma City some great depth at a minimal cost.
in its assessment of the businessOur own Sam Quinn gave the Thunder an โA+.โ Thatโs because combined with Caruso, the Thunder have the potential to be a championship defense.
- Quinn: “The Celtics Won a championship in large part by having an endless array of switchable perimeter stoppers. The Thunder now have Caruso, Lou Dort, Cason Wallace And jalen williams … with Chet Holmgrenwho ranked third in the NBA in contested shots per game while protecting the basketball last season. Now you can credibly argue that Oklahoma City’s defense is set to be better than Boston’s.”
The Bulls’ report card was not respectable. They received a “C-” grade from Quinn because they traded away a highly touted player for a cheap price. The Bulls just hope Giddey lives up to the potential of their former No. 6 overall pick in Chicago.
๐ Kim off to fast start at Travelers Championship
On his last day at the age of 21, Tom Kim Celebrated after dominating the first round Travelers Championship. Kim played a great round of golfShot a 62 at TPC River Highlands.
Kim finished the day at 8 under, good for a two-stroke lead in Round 2. Kim hit 11 of 14 fairways, and our own Kyle Porter had a near-perfect afternoon of his own.
- Porter: “He’s not the biggest hitter or the most talented player, but he played amazing on Thursday, the eve of his 22nd birthday. What did he do well? Everything. And while his putter carried him to a 62, as we discussed on the First Cut podcast, this is the kind of course Kim can compete on.”
Behind Kim, there is a deadlock on the Travelers Championship leaderboard. Rickie Fowlerwho is trying to end an otherwise poor season on a good note, is in second place Akshay Bhatia, Will Zalatoris And Kurt Kitayama At 6-under.
In sixth place, Scottie Scheffler And Tony Finau He’s tied with four other golfers at 5-under.
Kim is off to a great start, but there are still plenty of big names in golf. Keep an eye on CBS Sports coverage of the Travelers Championship all weekend.
๐ Angel Reese breaks WNBA rookie record
Some? WNBA players are off to a great start instead Sky Cheaters angel reeseWho created history in his team’s 83-72 victory Wing On Thursday.
With 16 points and a career-high 18 rebounds, Reese recorded his seventh consecutive double-doubleIt’s a new WNBA rookie record as Reese, the No. 7 pick in the 2024 draft, continues to make life easy at the professional level.
Over the past 25 seasons, only six freshmen between the WNBA and NBA have put up seven consecutive double-doubles, and that’s pretty impressive company for Reese to be in.
- Blake Griffin (3x)
- Victor Wembanyama (2x)
- Karl-Anthony Towns (2x)
- Emeka Okafor (2x)
- angel reese
- ben simmons
Reese’s exceptional performance has earned him second place in our latest rankings. WNBA Rookie RankingsReese is now averaging 12.1 points, 10.2 rebounds and 2.1 assists in her first 13 WNBA games. Reese will try for eight consecutive double-doubles Caitlin Clarke and this Fever on a Sunday afternoon in Chicago.
But before you ask if Reese or Clark can replace the injured Cameron Brink on the Team USA 3×3 team at the Paris Olympics, we have some bad news. Neither of them meet the eligibility criteria, As our own Jack Maloney points out in his latest articleThankfully, they found some big names who could do the same.
