Leah Remini officially files for divorce from husband Angelo Pagan after 21 years of marriage, citing ‘irreconcilable differences’
Page Six has confirmed that Leah Remini filed for divorce from Angelo Pagan on Thursday, citing “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for their separation.
According to court documents obtained by Page Six on Friday, the “King of Queens” star filed in Los Angeles County and listed August 1 as the date of their separation.
He waived his right to spousal maintenance and asked the court to terminate his eligibility to pay maintenance to Pagan. The “Bosch: Legacy” actor also waived his right to spousal maintenance in his response, submitted Friday.
Both parties have written in their respective court filings that they will separate their assets later.
There are no minor children involved in the divorce. Pagan, 56, and Remini, 54, have a 20-year-old daughter, Sophia Bella.
Pagan also has three sons from a previous relationship: Angelo Jr., Alex, and Nico.
The estranged couple announced their separation after 21 years of marriage in a joint Instagram post on Thursday.
“This decision has been made after a lot of thought and care, and as difficult as divorce is, we are approaching it with a positive attitude because we know it is what is best for us,” he wrote alongside an old and current photo.
“Yes, we are sad, and we have to figure out some things as we move forward into our new normal — in many ways still together, and in some new ways apart.”
They also explained why they decided to end the relationship after being together for so long.
“Simply put, we have both changed, as people do, and we have become accustomed to playing roles that were no longer a good fit for us,” they explained. “After a lot of effort and deliberation, we have decided to take this step that reflects who we are today.”
Pagan, 56, and Remini, 54, said they decided to speak openly about their separation because they had been open about their marriage over the years. Their romance was chronicled on the TLC series “Leah Remini: It’s All Relative” between 2014 and 2015.
“We hope our journey can inspire others to see that relationships — even if they change or end — are not meant to fail,” their post continued. “We will continue to share snippets of our lives as we navigate this new chapter.”
Remini and Pagan met in 1996 at El Floridita, a Cuban club and restaurant in Los Angeles.
The actress told Redbook magazine in 2010 that it was “love at first sight.”
They married in 2003 and their daughter was born the following year.
Though their connection was instantaneous, Remini admitted in her 2015 memoir “Troublemaker: Surviving Hollywood and Scientology” that the entrepreneur was a “serial cheater” and that he hid the fact that he was married when they met.
“We had a hard time in the beginning,” he further recalled in a 2019 episode of “RuPaul.”
“We didn’t meet under the best of circumstances. We went through counseling, and it wasn’t an easy road … but the truth is he’s my support.”
