Matt Damon had this to say on Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez getting back together in 2021
Matt Damon was on Bennifer’s team.
When Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck rekindled their romance in 2021 — nearly 20 years after their first engagement ended — Damon, 53, opened up about how he felt about the reunion.
“I’m so happy for him,” Damon told Extra in 2021. “He’s the best. He deserves all the happiness in the world. I’m happy for both of them.”
And now that Lopez, 55, has filed for divorce from Affleck, 52, the former “Gone Girl” singer has turned to Damon and his wife Luciana Barroso.
Affleck was spotted out to dinner with the couple on Sunday night and appeared to be in good spirits despite the end of their two-year marriage.
The trio dined at Italian hot spot Toscana in Los Angeles, with the newly-single actor wearing a white T-shirt, beige button-up, jeans and Nikes.
Damon wore a black polo shirt and dark denim, as did his wife of nearly 19 years, who wore a black crop top and matching pants.
Affleck arrived alone and drove himself, while Damon and Barroso came with their children.
Despite the end of their relationship, the “Jersey Girl” star was spotted laughing with the valet after dinner, according to a video obtained by TMZ.
Their night on the town comes after Lopez filed for divorce without a lawyer on their second wedding anniversary. The singer listed the date of separation as April 26.
The two reportedly did not sign a prenuptial agreement. Lopez did not request spousal support and asked the judge to deny Affleck’s support.
Following their engagement in 2022, they got married in July of that year at the Little White Wedding Chapel in Las Vegas and said “I do” for the second time a month later at Affleck’s estate in Riceboro, Georgia.
There have been reports that the “Air” director’s “erratic mood swings” contributed to their separation.
“The truth is, there was a lot of love between the two, but unfortunately it also became apparent that Ben had mood swings that he couldn’t hide from the press, no matter how hard he tried,” a source told People on Saturday. “You could see erratic behavior, major mood swings.”
The insider also shared that Affleck would go from being “incredibly happy and warm — which was the best light coming out of him” to “the deepest, darkest behavior.”
He added: “I think he was sending a message to the press.”
“But when mood swings and major lows indicate a toxicity that’s omnipresent, no one can help you — you have to help yourself,” the insider added.
“But I wouldn’t dare say there isn’t love – of course there is,” he concluded. “The world was happy for them, but what he said and who he turned out to be were two different people.”
