NHL announces preliminary rosters for 4-Nation clash between USA, Canada, Sweden and Finland
The NHL and NHL Players Association have announced the initial rosters for the fourth National Face-Off to be held in February 2025. Canada, Finland, Sweden and the United States revealed the first six players who will form their respective rosters for the inaugural tournament.
The rosters are as follows:
United States
Canada
Finland
Sweden
Hockey Canada, the Finnish Ice Hockey Association, the Swedish Ice Hockey Association and USA Hockey will submit their remaining team lists between November 29 and December 2.
Each national team will consist of 23 NHL players (20 skaters and three goaltenders). All of those players must sign NHL contracts for the 2024–25 season and be members of an NHL roster by December 2, 2024.
The 4-nation face-off will take place at the Bell Centre (Montreal) and TD Garden (Boston) in 2025. A total of seven matches will be played over nine days from February 12-20.
The 4 Nations head-to-head will be played under NHL rules. Each of the four teams will play three tournament games in a round-robin format. The points system is as follows: three points for a regular season win, two points for an overtime/shootout win and one point for an overtime/shootout loss. The two teams with the best records at the end of those three games will advance and face off in a one-game final to determine the champion.
This will be the first time NHL players will play for their national teams since 2014, when NHL players participated in the Olympics.
