Oprah Winfrey takes on the DNC in a purple suit full of hidden meanings
“The Color Purple” has come to the D.N.C.
Oprah Winfrey may not be a Democrat, but she took the stage at the party’s 2024 national convention in Chicago on Wednesday wearing a bold purple suit that cleverly paired her political views with the color purple.
The 70-year-old media mogul — who told the crowd in his speech that he is “a registered independent” — wore a custom Christian Siriano blazer and matching trousers, which were a mix of Republican red and Democratic blue colors.
Winfrey’s blazer — which was made of a silky crepe fabric — had a wide band around the waist that created a corset-like shape, and she wore it with matching flowy trousers.
The former talk show host continued the purple theme with purple pumps and giant amethyst drop earrings, and she also wore lavender-toned makeup for her speech.
Winfrey called on “all independents and undecideds” to vote for Harris, saying that “values and character matter most.”
“First time speaking at the @demconvention — thank you for all of your kind words. Now it’s time to do as my forever FLOTUS @michelleobama said and “get something done.” 🗳️🇺🇸” Winfrey posted on Instagram Thursday morning, sharing some behind-the-scenes photos and video from her time at the convention.
Siriano also shared a few photos of the proud moment, writing, “Thank you @oprah for tonight! Very stylish in custom Siriano giving a very powerful speech at the #DNC.”
And although her suit for her big speech was a perfect mix of blue and red, this isn’t the first time Oprah has worn this color.
She made a big splash of plum, lavender and violet during her promotion for “The Color Purple” last year, wearing everything from a sequined Dolce & Gabbana gown to a polished pastel trouser suit.
Something tells us this isn’t Winfrey’s last purple moment.
