Overwatch 2’s Season 9 file size is enormous

Blizzard Entertainment released Overwatch in 2016 and since then there has been no looking back. The game is set in a multiplayer first-person shooting genre. Blizzard came up with Overwatch after canceling a previously planned multiplayer game. The game marked the developer’s fourth entry into the main franchise.

Overwatch has received critical acclaim and has been well received by fans. Even after so many years, the game still has a dedicated player base. The game further helped Blizzard gain a foothold in the industry.

However, things weren’t the same when Blizzard launched Overwatch 2. The second game received mixed reviews and has been plagued with in-game problems. Therefore, Blizzard plans to change this scene with the launch of Season 9.

Overwatch 2 Season 9 File Size

This new season will be released to significantly improve the game. So there will definitely be value in this season. According to developer Blizzard, the Season 9 patch will be a “rebase patch”. Cady, the community manager of Overwatch 2, said this.

To clarify, the goal of these rebase patches is to reduce the overall file size of a game by combining the patch data into the game’s base files, but they also temporarily increase the amount of space required on the installed hard drive.

Therefore, players will need a minimum of 38GB of space on their drives to complete the update process for the Season 9 patch. However, it will also be possible to completely delete and reinstall Overwatch 2 if players, for whatever reason, do not have this required space on their system.

But players should keep in mind that the hefty 38GB free space requirement required for the Season 9 update is only temporary as it is a rebase patch, and is only used during the download. Players will not always have to allocate 38GB of space for Overwatch 2 as it will only be used during the installation process.

Changes are coming to Overwatch 2 Season 9

The Season 9 update is also called the “Champions” update and it will bring with it the “Gauntlet” which is a Hero Mastery course. The new season will also introduce a PvE event focused on an investigation headed by Moira, one of Talon’s villainous scientists. The revival of Fara, major changes to all hero health pools, and self-healing by players can also be expected.
