Panthers’ Bryce Young benched: Dave Canales says trading the QB is ‘not something we’re really considering’
The Carolina Panthers’ quarterback rotation continues as the team tries to find some stability at the position. Panthers Made the surprising decision to bench the former No. 1 overall pick Bryce Young voted in favor of veteran Andy Dalton.
Young has only played in 18 games in his two-year career, and his record in those contests is 2-16. It’s not just at quarterback, as the Panthers have a list of issues they need to address, but they’re hoping this change will make some difference on a struggling offense.
After benching Young, who the Panthers gave up so much to acquire, questions arose about whether the team would make an effort to add the 23-year-old.
Coach Dave Canales shot down any rumors that Young would be heading to a new zip code in the near future, saying there are no such plans at this time.
“We’re not really considering it. The situation is great right now with our quarterbacks,” he said, via NFL Media.
Canales believes Young can be a franchise quarterback, but he clearly doesn’t think it’s in the best interest of the team to make him the starter right now. The first-rounder struggled in his rookie season and the situation is the same this year, if not worse.
Canales said the team’s focus is on their next opponent, the Las Vegas Raiders, whom they face this Sunday at Allegiant Stadium.
The Panthers have scored just 13 points while their opponents have scored 73, and are 0-2 to start the season.
