what to know
San Francisco. Have enjoyed a two-game homestand, but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They and the Pepperdine Waves will face off in the West Coast Battle at Firestone Fieldhouse on Thursday at 11:00 pm ET. Pepperdine suffered a loss in their last game and will look to turn the tables on San Fran coming in with a win.
The Dons defeated the Tigers 79-73 last Saturday.
San Francisco’s victory was a true team effort, with solid performances from several players. Perhaps the best of them was Jonathan Mogbo, who dropped a double-double at 15 points and 14 rebounds. Mogbo is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he has pulled down ten or more in the last four games he has played so far. Another difference-maker was Ryan Beasley, who scored 14 points with six assists and three steals.
Meanwhile, Pepperdine’s recent troubles got a little worse after suffering its fifth consecutive loss on Saturday. They lost 93–89 to the Pilots. Pepperdine did not perform up to his potential and found himself missing out on the benefits he expected coming into the game.
Even though the team lost, they still put in an impressive performance. One of the best came from Houston Mallet, who scored 28 points with two blocks. The team also got some help from Javon Porter, who scored 22 points with six rebounds.
The Dons have been in great form recently: they have won ten of their last 12 matches, giving them a nice 18–6 record this season. As for the Waves, they have had a rocky road recently, losing seven of their last nine games, which has put a notable dent in their 9-15 record this season.
Looking forward, San Fran. There are favorites as experts expect them to win by 9.5 points. There is some confidence (to put it mildly) among bookmakers picking them against the spread, as the team has failed to cover when expected to win four consecutive games.
San Francisco. When the teams last played in February 2023, they were able to pick up a convincing win over the Waves, winning 88–80. The rematch could be a little tough for San Fran. Since this time the team will not get the home-court advantage. We’ll see if the change in venue makes any difference.
