‘Rocky Horror’ legend Tim Curry to star in feature film for first time in 14 years

Tim Curry is returning to the big screen.

According to Variety, the 78-year-old “Rocky Horror Picture Show” actor will appear in the new slasher film “Stream.”

It is Curry’s first feature film role in 14 years.

“Stream” opens in select theaters on Wednesday (August 21).

This horror film is directed by Michael Levy and stars Jeffrey Combs, Charles Powell, Tim Reid, Dee Wallace, David Howard Thornton, Danielle Harris, Mark Holton, etc.

“It’s been really hard to keep this secret and contain our excitement, especially for so long,” Levy told Variety about Curry’s appearance in the film.

“We are so happy and thrilled to have Tim back in movies and on the big screen,” the director added. “His charm always shines through in everything he does and we are so proud to have him a part of ‘Stream’. He is someone I have idolised since childhood and working with him is one of the greatest achievements of my life, especially on a project that means so much to me.”

“We can’t wait for fans to sit back and enjoy our film in theaters and hopefully come together in large numbers. That’s how horror movies should be watched and enjoyed. ‘Stream’ is for entertainment,” Levy added.

The iconic actor’s last feature film role was the 2010 comedy “Burke & Hare.” He starred alongside Simon Pegg, Andy Serkis, Isla Fisher, and Tom Wilkinson.

Curry’s career came to a halt after he suffered a stroke in July 2012, which left him confined to a wheelchair.

But he has done voice acting in several animated projects, including “Young Justice”, “Star Wars: The Clone Wars”, “Randy Cunningham: 9th Grade Ninja” and “Ben 10: Omniverse”.

Curry also appeared in the TV remake of “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” in 2016. He played the criminologist narrator.

Former “Orange Is the New Black” actress Laverne Cox, 52, stars in the remake as Dr. Frank-N-Furter, the role Curry played in the 1975 cult-favorite film.

Before the remake aired, Curry told People that she was “happy to be back on this project that’s so dear to me. It’s very exciting. It’s going to be very interesting because it’s so close to me.”

Cox, who is transgender, said watching Curry in “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” was inspirational for her.

“When I first saw Tim Curry in that movie, I was in a gender-nonconforming place,” she told People. “I had shaved my head and started wearing makeup, and I was exploring my gender more — and here was a character that was just so unabashedly myself, and it gave me permission to not only dream, but to be that.”

Curry has stepped away from the spotlight since the stroke.

In 2015, the “Home Alone 2” star told Los Angeles Magazine that he was “doing well.”

He also explained that relying on his sense of humour was “important” while recovering from the stroke.

“It’s not that hard to maintain. It’s part of my DNA,” Curry said.
