Sabrina Carpenter teases collaboration with Christina Aguilera after Britney Spears throws shade
Sabrina Carpenter and Christina Aguilera hinted at a new collaboration on TikTok on Wednesday — just a week after fellow pop princess Britney Spears shaded the former’s 2024 MTV VMAs performance.
In the brief clip shared by Aguilera, Carpenter used an audio clip from an episode of “The Kardashians” in which he called Aguilera his “mom” and said he was “obsessed” with her.
“I’m obsessed with my mom,” Carpenter lip-synced, echoing Kylie Jenner’s words when she described her relationship with her famous mom, Kris. “I’m her favorite. We really have a relationship like no other of her kids have,” the sound plays.
The “Taste” singer reposted the video on her Instagram Stories with the caption: “I don’t think you understand, I’m obsessed.”
The 25-year-old singer will join Aguilera in celebrating the 25th anniversary of her debut album in a special episode of “Spotify Anniversaries.”
The episode will be released on September 25, which will also feature MGK.
“I wanted to celebrate the 25th anniversary of my debut album in a way that brought the past and the present together,” Aguilera told Rolling Stone.
“I always enjoy reworking my songs for different genres and audiences, as well as playing with sounds and arrangements that show how all music can be timeless.”
In an August interview with Paper magazine, Carpenter revealed she has been a longtime fan of the singer, calling her “one of my very first idols and icons.”
“I was 11 and you couldn’t get her name out of your mouth,” she told the outlet. “She’s very special to me. Those songs have brought me up.”
Last week, Spears — who was once involved in a years-long feud with the “Genie in a Bottle” singer — criticized Carpenter’s Interstellar performance at this year’s Video Music Awards after she kissed an alien backup dancer onstage.
“I don’t get that part,” the Grammy winner, who shared a kiss with Madonna at the 2003 VMAs, asked, adding, “Why didn’t he kiss a girl? That was weird.”
However, Spears also said she “likes” the “Girl Meets World” alum and is “so in love” with her in an Instagram video.
