Texans vice president Hannah McNair is thanking the Browns ‘for all our players’, even two years after trading Deshaun Watson

A year ago, the Houston Texans were considered one of the worst teams in football. However, entering the upcoming 2024 season, they are seen as a Super Bowl dark horse. It appears that Texans officials chose DeMeco Ryans as head coach and then selected CJ Stroud and Will Anderson Jr. as the 2023 Offensive and Defensive Rookies of the Year. The Texans should also thank the Cleveland Browns for their quick rebuild.

In 2022, the Browns gave the Texans a tremendous package for quarterback Deshaun Watson. Just two years later, that transaction already looks like a fantastic deal. One of the worst trades in NFL history,

During a recent appearance on the “Ultimate Fan” podcast, Hannah McNair, Texans vice president and wife of Texans owner Cal McNair, asked, “Have you given the Browns a Thanksgiving lately?” Not because Cleveland was blown out 45-14 by Houston during Super Wild Card Weekend last year, but because the Watson trade happened.

“I want to thank all of our players for what they did,” McNair said.

CBS Sports recently Watson trade reconsideredAnd all the players Houston acquired in this deal. Here are the players Cleveland sent:

  • 2022 first-round selection (13th)
  • 2022 fourth-round picks (104)

  • 2023 third-round picks (73)
  • 2024 first-round picks (23)
  • 2024 fourth-round selection (123)

All of these selections were used as follows:

  • 2022 First (13) The Eagles were traded for the No. 15 (OL Kenyon Green), 124, 162, and 166
  • Pick No. 124 was later traded to the Browns along with picks No. 68 and 108 (WR John Metchie III,
  • Pick No. 162 was later traded to the Broncos along with pick No. 80 for pick No. 75 (DL Christian Harris,

  • 2024 First (23) The Vikings with 232 were sold for No.42 (DB Kamari Lassiter), 188 (LB Jamal Hill) and MIN’s 2025 second
  • 2024 Fourth (123) The Eagles were sold and then returned to the Texans and used TE Cade Stover

Not only did the Texans get some big names in this deal, but Watson has struggled since moving to Cleveland. He has missed 11 games in each of his first two seasons with the Browns due to suspensions and injuries, and has ranked 35th or worse in completion percentage, yards per attempt and passer rating among 45 qualified quarterbacks over the past two years.

The Browns have averaged 19.7 offensive points per game with Watson starting, while all of the Browns’ other starting quarterbacks over the last two years have averaged 21.5 offensive points per game. As for Houston’s quarterback situation, the Texans selected Stroud No. 2 overall last year, and he put together one of the best rookie campaigns ever.
