The first step towards a fourth season of Ted Lasso
Fans of “Ted Lasso” will definitely enjoy this one.
“Ted Lasso” co-creator Bill Lawrence told The Post that more episodes are possible in the near future, coming two weeks after news that the hit Apple TV+ show could return for a fourth season.
As Deadline reports, Warner Bros. Television, the studio behind the streaming football comedy, has picked up the option for three of the original, lead cast members.
Sources told Deadline that the studio has picked up Hannah Waddingham, who plays AFC Richmond owner Rebecca Walton, Brett Goldstein, who plays the sailor-mouthed Roy Kent, and Jeremy Swift, who plays Leslie Higgins, the show’s director of football operations, for a potential fourth season.
At least that seems to be the goal.
The last episode of the show’s third season will air in May 2023.
All three British talents are members of Equity, the trade union for actors in Britain.
Next, Deadline’s report indicates that the studio will reach out to “Ted Lasso” cast members whose SAG-AFTRA contracts have expired.
Lawrence said earlier this month that the show’s return is dependent on Ted Lasso’s lead character, Jason Sudeikis.
Sudeikis, who spent years with the cast of “Saturday Night Live,” created the show along with Lawrence and Brendan Hunt, or Coach Beard to “Lasso” fans.
This feel-good comedy was developed from a character that Sudeikis created for a series of commercials.
Deadline claims that in addition to the co-creators and executive producers, the studio is also planning to approach actress Juno Temple, who plays Keeley Jones.
According to the report, the budget needs to be approved and the schedule confirmed before the studio will greenlight Season 4, adding that production could begin as early as 2025.
Deadline claims that WBTV’s moves suggest Sudeikis is already on board.
“Ted Lasso” was always conceived as a three-season series.
However, Apple never referred to the show’s final episode as the final episode of the series.
The series, set in England, ends with Ted moving back to Kansas. In the episode, Lasso can be seen on a field coaching his son’s football team.
