The Miz reacts to John Cena’s comments, says he ‘selfishly’ wants to be part of his retirement tour
Even The Miz was surprised to learn that a documentary about him was titled “Biography: WWE Legends.” Some might scoff at giving such a prestigious label to the reality star turned WWE Superstar, but John Cena would be the first to justify the claim.
“He’s the most underrated superstar in WWE history,” Cena said of The Miz in the trailer for A&E’s “Biography: WWE Legends” documentary, premiering Sunday.
The Miz has won 21 titles during his 20 consecutive year tenure with WWE, including winning the WWE Championship twice. A lesser-known fact is that The Miz is WWE’s first two-time Grand Slam Champion, a feat only achieved by Seth Rollins since then. A modern Grand Slam champion must hold a world title, a tag team title, and both the Intercontinental and United States titles. The Miz first accomplished this feat in 2010 alongside the likes of Shawn Michaels, Triple H, Kurt Angle, Eddie Guerrero, Randy Orton, and Roman Reigns. He completed this cycle for a second time in 2021 by defeating Drew McIntyre to become WWE Champion.
These accomplishments lend credibility to Cena’s argument, especially since some consider The Miz to be primarily a midcard talent.
“It meant a lot to me that he took the time to do my documentary because he spent a lot of time with me and taught me how to be the best superstar I can be,” Miz told CBS Sports. “I hope I did his teachings justice and that comment made me feel like I did justice and that meant a lot to me.”
Miz and Cena were major rivals in the early 2010s, competing against each other in several pay-per-view matches. Miz, who was once the black sheep in the locker room, credits Cena for becoming one of WWE’s most enduring performers.
“I don’t think anybody can understand how much John Cena has taught me in the WWE ring. Not only in the ring but outside of the ring. He’s one of the biggest movie stars in the world… he’s into everything,” Miz said. “It just shows that when Cena sets his mind on something, he wants to go after it with all his might.”
The best moment of Miz’s career is probably his main match against Cena at WrestleMania 27. The Miz defeated him to retain the WWE Championship with help from The Rock. It was a moment that was made even sweeter and more surreal by Miz’s presence.
“I’m main eventing WrestleMania with John Cena and watching his entrance and seeing my best friends from high school who are in my living room cheering on The Rock and [Steve] “I see John Cena running in the ring and I see my boys saying, ‘We did it,’” Miz said.
Cena surprised fans at WWE Money in the Bank on July 6. Announcing his retirement journeyCena will be seen in WWE’s debut show on Netflix in January along with Royal Rumble, Elimination Chamber and WrestleMania 41. Every superstar will probably be looking for a chance to face Cena one last time. This includes The Miz.

“I’m going to put my name in the running!” The Miz said. “I’ve been in the ring with John Cena so many times and selfishly I want more because it’s so much fun to get in the ring with John Cena.
“But I also want our new talent to experience John Cena. Because as much as I’ve been taught by John and I can teach what John has taught me, it’s always better when you have someone to teach you. I want our young talent to feel that energy.”
The Miz has other bucket list goals between now and WrestleMania 41 in April. The Miz is not currently booked for any matches. SummerSlam on August 3 But he is looking forward to playing at Cleveland Browns Stadium, his childhood playground. Winning the Royal Rumble is another priority goal for a superstar who has achieved almost everything but sees no end to his career.
