USMNT midfielder Weston McKennie extends deal with Juventus until 2026: Contract details, salary, more
Everything changed for USMNT midfielder Weston McKennie over the past week. After the American was left out of the pre-season tour at Juventus, Bianconeri manager Thiago Motta announced that he had been re-instated to the squad ahead of the first game of the season against Como, and then the club announced today that McKennie had extended his deal at the club for another year, until the summer of 2026.
McKennie, whose previous contract was valid until the summer of 2025, signed a deal for this season and next season with another year worth €4.5 million, netting a total of €9 million over the next two years, sources told CBS Sports. McKennie can now focus on the new season after a difficult summer where he was left out of the squad and was close to leaving the club several times.
The American midfielder was one of the central players last season under coach Massimiliano Allegri, but then negotiations over a new deal at the club stalled and the club decided to sell him in the summer. However, several potential landing spots fell through, including one with Aston Villa when McKennie refused to join the English side in the same deal that brought midfielder Douglas Luiz to the Bianconeri this summer. From that moment on, the relationship with McKennie deteriorated and the player was definitely left out of the team.
Now, a few weeks later, both parties decided that the best solution is to continue playing together, as McKennie can also become an important player under Thiago Motta, who defined him as a “useful player” in the pre-match press conference against Como. McKennie played 34 of the 38 Serie A games last season and was one of Juventus’ key midfielders. He can now look at his future at the club in a more positive way, especially after signing a deal that guarantees him at least two more years of playing in the Italian Serie A.
