Wednesday night belonged to Los Angeles Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani. However, Ohtani’s dog Decoy may have been the star of the show.

The Dodgers gave Ohtani bobbleheads to the first 40,000 fans in attendance at Wednesday’s game. Before the contest, DeCoy got a chance to throw out the first pitch — or rather, deliver it.

Ohtani ordered the decoy to remain on the pitcher’s mound and placed the ball in front of his beloved pup. When Ohtani got into his position behind home plate, the decoy picked up the ball and dropped it near home plate.

“I think I was more nervous for the ceremonial pitch than the decoy,” Ohtani said after the game. “I’m glad everything went well.”

It was a great night for Ohtani, as he saw thousands of fans line up several hours before the first pitch to get one of the coveted bobbleheads.

Ohtani may have been inspired by the decoy’s presence because he opened the game with a solo home run off Baltimore Orioles starter Corbin Burnes. The Dodgers slugger went 2-for-4 on the night with three runs scored, including a long ball, in the Dodgers’ 6-4 win.

Ohtani continues his historic season as he tries to become the first player in MLB history to join the 50/50 club with 50 home runs and 50 stolen bases. After Wednesday’s game, Ohtani has 42 home runs and 42 stolen bases this year.
