When is Prince Harry returning to New York, he will get extra security after ‘horrific’ car chase
Prince Harry is returning to the Big Apple.
The Duke of Sussex’s visit to New York City next month will coincide with the United Nations General Assembly’s High-Level Week and Climate Week, The Post has confirmed.
However, the trip will be a solo trip for the royal family as his wife Meghan Markle, 43, will remain in Montecito, California with their two children.
Harry, 39, will be in the Big Apple to “further his many conservation and philanthropic initiatives,” his rep said, adding that the father of two will be busy with African Parks, The Halo Trust, The Diana Award and Travelist.
His rep told the Post in a statement that he will also “further the work of The Archewell Foundation, a nonprofit organization he founded with his wife, Meghan, The Duchess of Sussex.”
While details about Harry’s upcoming trip are still scarce, the Duke is set to receive extra security following his and Markle’s so-called “almost frightening” paparazzi car chase in Manhattan in May 2023.
Harry and Markle find themselves at the center of a high-speed chase while leaving Midtown’s Ziegfeld Theatre with her mother after an event.
The trio were followed by paparazzi, who failed to take any photos of the famous couple as they left the venue.
Soon after, a rep for the pair claimed they were “involved in a nearly frightening car chase at the hands of a gang of overly aggressive paparazzi.”
However, law enforcement sources described the incident as much less dramatic, saying the chase lasted only an hour as the family hitched a ride in a yellow taxi to throw the criminals off their trail.
The Sussexes ultimately did not file any charges over the incident, but the NYPD did announce last year that the couple would be subject to heightened security during their trip to the Big Apple.
In a letter addressed to London’s Metropolitan Police, the NYPD intelligence chief wrote that the police force would “increase the security resources provided to the Duke and Duchess during future visits to the city.”
Harry’s visit also coincides with his estranged brother Prince William’s annual Earthshot Prize innovation summit, which is set to take place on September 24.
It is unclear whether William, 42, will attend this year’s summit, but the heir to the throne attended last year.
The future king was in full stealth mode while running in Central Park in the morning. So stealthy that no one even knew it was him.
If these feuding brothers happen to be in New York City at the same time, it’s likely they won’t acknowledge each other’s presence.
A palace source recently told The Sunday Times that the siblings had not spoken for “two years,” with their last conversation reportedly taking place at Queen Elizabeth’s funeral in September 2022.
Harry’s upcoming trip will be his first to the Big Apple, having previously traveled in October 2023 for the Archewell Foundation Parents’ Summit: Mental Health in the Digital Age.
The summit took place just months after the Sussexes were involved in a car chase incident in Manhattan.
